The 2026-27 NFL season kicks off with a Super Bowl rematch between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, and the market kicks off the way it always does: grading teams on what they did instead of how they actually did it. Those gaps are largest in the games that fans are the most excited to watch: the Games of the Year market. So let's get into them, how we got to our number on each and where I believe the market went wrong.Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonHere are five of my favorite wagers:Week 1: New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks (-4.5, 44.5)Fans don't have to wait long for the first Game of the Year, and the market has already made up its mind on it: two elite defenses, hang a low number and move on. I understand the instinct. Seattle's defense graded No. 1 in our deserved-points model last year, giving up just 16.4 PPG a game, and New England's sat right behind it at No. 2. On paper, that's a rock fight and the total of 44.5 prices it like one. But here's what the total is glossing over: both of these offenses are slightly under appreciated. We have Seattle at fourth in offense by the same model, scoring 27.1 expected points and New England came in at No. 8. With both teams top eight in offense, yet a total at 44.5, the defenses are getting a bit too much credit we see value on the over as we land at 47.1 projected points.Bet: Over 44.5 (-110)Week 1: Buffalo Bills (-1.5, 44.5) at Houston TexansThis is my favorite number on the board, because I think the market has this number short, even with projections that on a season-long build have the Texans better than most models are implying. Houston's offense deserved to score just 21.3 points per game, No. 18 in the league per our score-expectations metric, and the whole season was propped up by two things: a No. 3 defense and the single biggest luck number in the NFL, a +2.48 that says they won a stack of close games they had no business winning. Now line them up against Buffalo, where Josh Allen's offense graded No. 3 at 27.5 points per game a full six points of deserved offense over Houston and that's the crux of the whole thing: a high-powered offense against a team whose coach has made his living building incredible defensive units. It's not that Houston's defense can't find stops, it's a lack of belief that its No. 18 offense has the power to move the ball on a Bills defense. We make Buffalo the better team by 1.6. The market moved recently from Buffalo +1.5 to -1.5, but I still think the Bills money line presents good value here.Bet: Bills ML -115Week 12: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (-1.5, 49.5)Thanksgiving in Dallas, and the market's leaning into the fun. The Cowboys are at home in a coin-flip spread with a shootout expected in this high total matchup. On the surface it tracks, as Dallas's offense is expected to take large explosive opportunities and the key reason Dak Prescott is in the front running to have the most passing yards all season. The problem has time and time again been the defense, bolting on a top-five offense to the league's worst defense is exactly how you get a fun team the market loves and a bad number to bet into. Philadelphia is the opposite build. Their offense is nothing special (No. 16 in expected scoring), but the defense is the whole identity. It's not that Dallas can't score, it's that Philly is the exact roster built to make them earn every inch while they grind the clock and keep it low scoring. Our model actually has the Eagles as the better team here, not the underdog, and the total a field goal heavy. On Thanksgiving, everyone wants the track meet; I want the team that turns it into a holiday power nap.Bets: Eagles +1.5 (-110) and under 49.5 (-110)Week 12: Kansas Chiefs at Buffalo Bills (-2.5, 50.5)The game everybody circles on their calendar. Patrick Mahomes and Allen have traded haymakers for years, and the market prices it like it always ends 34-31, hanging a 50.5 total that's really just based on reputation. But last year's Chiefs weren't that team: Kansas City's offense deserved just 21.1 PPG a game (No. 20 in the league in our model). While I'd love a Mahomes bounce back as much as the next person, the identity of this team has flipped. The assumption they will just be back to their normal theatrics seems tough, with as much as Mahomes puts his body into trouble over the course of a season. The Bills will get theirs, but theyll face a top-five Kansas City defense and pairing that with a Chiefs offense that ran that cold is not the recipe for 51 points. We land at 46.4, more than a field goal under. The names say shootout, but the numbers say grind it out and buy in early on the potential variance this Kansas City team could have with the swings of Mahomes potential ceiling.Bet: Under 50.5 (-110)Week 16: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks (-1.5, 45.5)A Christmas gift for the NFL fans. Seattle is the reigning champ, so of course the Seahawks home favorites laying a point and a half against the division-rival Rams. But pulling player talent and expectation we have the wrong team favored here. The Rams graded as our No. 1 offense last year (29.6 PPG) and still ran cold, a better team than its record that the market keeps underselling because it doesn't wear the crown. Seattle's No. 1 defense is real and this isnt to discredit them at all, but we know what we are getting there and it feels baked in that is the best unit on the field; in actuality I think it's much closer than the market has projected. Getting the side we think is better, in a division game, as a Christmas underdog, is the kind of gift I wake up early for (pun intended).Bet: Rams +1.5 (-110)

The ownership share is reported to be 'roughly one third.'The Reds' existing owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), acknowledged that a group has made an approach to purchase a stake in the club, overseen by Bhatia. A statement read: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."According to Sky News, the transaction would see Mr Bezos enter an investor group that also features Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook cofounder. Robbie Ure made his debut for Rangers at the age of 18, a goalscoring appearance in a League Cup tie against Queen of the South in August 2022.The teenage striker played two more games that season - or more accurately, one minute apiece in two different Premiership games six months apart, against St Mirren in the November, against Hibs in the May.For a young man keen to play, the meagre rations that Rangers served up weren't enough. Even though Rangers were toiling on all fronts, his prospects of game time were not high. In Ure's position, Rangers spent 6m on Danilo (with wages, cumulative cost to date of about 10m) and 3.5m on Sam Lammers (more than 4m if you include salary). With no prospects at Ibrox, Ure left for Anderlecht in Belgium and then IK Sirius in Sweden.At Sirius, Ure has matured and excelled. He's now 22 and on a run of 15 goals in 15 games, including 10 in his last six. News came through on Sunday that Sevilla are interested in signing him for close to 8m.Having lost 2-1 at home to Hibs the same day, the collective Rangers' mood won't have been lifted by the story of the former academy kid they allowed to leave for nothing being courted in a multi-million pound deal involving one of Spain's most storied clubs.If the deal does go through it will be private grist to the mill of the Scottish FA as they prepare for their "critically important" forum with the owners and CEOs of Scotland's senior clubs in St Andrews next month.Billed as 'Made In Scotland?' the presentation will be led by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and his chief football officer, Craig Mulholland. It's tantamount to a plea to clubs, mostly Premiership clubs, to look at their pathways and give young Scottish players more of a chance to show what they've got.If they were minded, which in the interests of diplomacy they surely won't be, Maxwell and Mulholland could cite the Ure case to back up their essential point. If only they'd trusted their youth they might have saved themselves one fortune and then made themselves another by developing him and selling him years later.Things are more complicated than that, of course. Ure might not have shown the promise then that he's showing now. There is an element of 20-20 hindsight about this, but it's still a sore one for Rangers just as Celtic will have been sore after hardly playing a young Ben Doak, now Gannon-Doak, and subsequently losing him to English football. Another multi-million pound boy that got away.We don't need the statistics of the opening two weeks of the Premiership to highlight the obvious need for the summit, but they highlight the problem nonetheless.Across the opening two rounds of the top-flight season only 31% of the players who played a part in the action were Scottish. Only 5% were Scots aged 21 or under. Forty-six different nations were represented. There are stark individual cases in all of this, the most remarkable being Dundee United using just one Scottish player - Dylan Tait - in their two games so far.Ask chairmen, chief executives and managers if they want to have young Scots in their first team and they will all say that they do, that they're passionate about rearing and playing their own. Then you'll hear myriad reasons why so many of them don't - some legitimate, others less so.There are nuances, naturally. Dundee United will talk about the investment they've made in developing their own players and how their promising 16-year-old, Kai Hutchison, was lured away to Everton, one of dozens of young Scots who have gone south in the post-Brexit age.Celtic will mention Dara Jikiemi (Liverpool) and Daniel Cummings (West Ham). Rangers will throw in Cameron Scott (Burnley) and Chris Eadie (Sheffield United). Hearts will offer up Boyd Fraser (Nottingham Forest) and Keir McMeekin (Man City). Hibs will cite Ben Vickery (Man City) and Josh Landers (West Ham).Those names are only scratching the surface of the ones who have headed away. There appears to be multiple reasons for leaving. Bigger money is part of it, for sure, but it's an overly convenient argument put forward by clubs. Avarice is one thing. Lack of opportunity is another.These players, and their parents, aren't seeing much of a pathway in front of them in Scotland. They're not seeing first-team chances. The biggest clubs in Scotland don't have many recent poster boys to illustrate their commitment to giving academy players regular first-team football. Too many of them - not all - clog up the pathway by recruiting journeymen foreigners. What must a promising teenager make of the endless amount of players with, at best, dubious playing pedigrees arriving at their club? Stay and stagnate or leave and hope?Maxwell and Mulholland have it all to do at St Andrews. They'll have an audience, but will it be a captive one? In attempting to win over those clubs who are not giving youth a chance they're going to have to appeal to the self-interest of these owners.Never mind the national interest and the greater good of feeding more young players to the national team down the line. Everybody in that room's first and last duty is to their own club. If that involves a ton of homegrown players, then great. Loads of clubs down the leagues are totally committed to giving their young players every chance.If others think that recruiting from Mars is going to help them to prosper then that's what they're likely to do. Their obligation is to their own backyard. It has to be.We've been here before...If you're asking Scotland's biggest clubs to give more game time to the kids then you'd better be bringing your A game. These people, some of whom have invested a lot of their own money while bringing in money from other investors, might only be prepared to listen if you're telling them something that's of benefit to them rather than in the interests of the national team five, 10, 15 years from now.The emphasis is on the 'might only be prepared' because we've been here before. The Scottish FA's Transition report was published in August 2024. It was a 114-page document put together by the then chief football officer, Andy Gould, and the former head of men's elite football strategy, Chris Docherty.It was a mighty document. Global player data, case studies, interviews - it challenged some old doctrines about the risks of playing young players and preached the gospel of youth.It wasn't a cry in the dark, it was a mission statement on the footballing and financial logic of giving more senior minutes to academy players, it showed the vast transfer income that dozens of European clubs have made by nurturing, playing and then selling their young players, it went through the pitiful number of minutes that academy players were getting in Scotland compared to any number of other successful leagues and nations.The message was that giving more game time to young Scots is in everybody's interest in every conceivable way, that the old beliefs of 'kids winning you nothing' is not supported by data. It was a compelling document, but it largely fell on deaf ears.Some recommendations were adopted but the thrust of the argument - be bold - was not. The Scottish FA published another report in October 2025 - 133 pages this time. It was another strong piece of work with really good ideas. Gould and Docherty were the authors once again. Neither of them work at Hampden anymore. Too many sore heads from too many brick walls, you suspect.We're now into another round of this, another attempt to shift the thinking. Just outside the window of the room all these club owners and chief executives are going to be sitting in next month is the famous Old Course Road Hole bunker, scene of many a golfing nightmare.Holing-out from the sand on that 17th hole will seem like a skoosh compared to the task that's facing Maxwell and Mulholland. For the future of the game, we wish them well, but a cry of Fore! might be ringing in their ears as they enter the room that day.

Keisean Henderson (5) and Conner Weigman (1) lead the quarterback room during Houstons fall camp. | Houston AthleticsThe anticipation had been brewing in Houston for over two years.The wait is over, and Keisean Henderson is finally a Houston Cougar.The 5-star quarterback was ranked the No. 1 overall prospect by 247Sports and the No. 4 by ESPN, earning the distinction as the nations top high school quarterback in the class of 2026 from both outlets. He is also the highest-rated recruit in Houston football history.The Cougars were among Hendersons first offers in April 2023. Roughly over a year later in May 2024, the Spring, TX native committed to his hometown school. But in the modern recruiting landscape, a commitment is rarely a final decision. There were a multitude of disruptors along the way even after Henderson committed, with Georgia, Alabama, Florida State among those in pursuit. But the quarterbacks heart belonged to Houston the entire time.After spending his first spring in Houston, he feels fully vindicated in his decision.The culture everybodys so bought in, from head to toe, in everything, Henderson said of his first impression of Houston. From the nutritioning staff to strength and conditioning to camera crew to everybody. Everybody is so bought in to seeing everyone win and everyone do better. Its more than football for everyone here. Just to be here and feel the culture and feel everything from the coaching staff and in the locker room, its definitely solidified.Henderson was so eager to launch his college career that he enrolled early in January. The quarterback believes the decision exponentially accelerated his development, allowing him to acclimate to the speed of the collegiate game before fall camp. He regularly scheduled meetings with quarterbacks coach Shawn Bell outside of practice to master the terminology of the playbook, which Henderson identified as the greatest learning curve between high school and college. At the same time, he was finishing his final semester of high school. Henderson graduated 10th in his class while simultaneously adhering to Houstons practice schedule and memorizing a new playbook.I think it helped a lot. I think it would have been tougher for me coming into the fall, Henderson said. I wanted to be ahead of the game. I feel like this is the best choice Ive ever made in my life coming in early, learning the playbook, and getting to know guys before the season even starts. Its just really a blessing to have an opportunity to even come out here, because a lot of guys wish they could be in the position Im in.As prepared as Henderson may be prior to his first college season, he will not be Houstons starting quarterback this fall. That role belongs to another former 5-star recruit. Conner Weigman prepares for his fifth and final season of college football after guiding the Cougars to a 10-3 finish and a final ranking of No. 22 last year. For now, Weigman remains the face of the Houston Cougars.Conners our starting quarterback without question, head coach Willie Fritz said. Whats really neat is Ive never had two 5-star quarterbacks before at any place Ive ever been at. Ive never had one, much less two. Those guys are both so unselfish.But that doesnt mean Henderson wont see the field in 2026. Fritz hinted he may have ways of getting the highly-anticipated freshman involved.Everybody keeps asking me what package were gonna run with Keisean, Fritz said. Were gonna run our total package with him. Hes really smart, can throw and run the ball. Those guys really, really work well together in the quarterback room. I think its a perfect situation for Keisean to be in there and learn from not only great coaches but a fellow great player in Conner.The mentor and protg relationship between Weigman and Henderson developed before Henderson even arrived at Houston. The two first crossed paths when Henderson was preparing for an Elite 11 quarterback competition in 2025. Weigman, a 2021 Elite 11 alumnus, offered Henderson advice on the drills he was about to experience. Now the Houston area natives two share a quarterback room at their hometown college.Hes a great guy, especially being around him every day through meetings, through practice, Henderson said of Weigman. Hes someone I can lean on. Hes been through four different schemes of offenses, and he knows what its like to be in my shoes to come in early, to feel what its like to get there in a spring game and compete. Being able to learn from him and how he takes it day-to-day has been great for my growth.While the 2026 season belongs to Weigman, the younger quarterback already had his first taste of the spotlight. During Houstons spring showcase in April, the Cougars rested the majority of their starters, thrusting Henderson into a starting quarterback role with over 1,000 fans onlooking.Weigman didnt throw a pass that day but was lively and present on the sideline, helping Henderson navigate the moment.(In the spring game), he told me, Just be patient, the games gonna come, Henderson recalled. That was the drive where I threw the touchdown, so just being able to listen to him and taking it as a coaching point, rather than him criticizing, thats something that I look forward to, especially in a room where theres four of us. Everybody has a link to each other, and hes one of those core points for our link to keep going.The mentorship role comes naturally to Weigman because he sees his younger self in Henderson. Weigman was a heralded 5-star recruit in the class of 2022, enrolling early at Texas A&M to make the difficult transition from high school to college. Four years later, he can use his 26 starts and 720 passing attempts of experience to shape the Cougars future starting quarterback.Ive been in his shoes, Weigman said of Henderson. Ive been that 5-star coming in. I know what it feels like, so to have someone he can lean on when he has questions any time he can ask me just to be that guy for him if he needs anything.After one spring working alongside the No. 1 quarterback recruit in the country, Weigman was already convinced Henderson was as good as advertised. His arm talent raised eyebrows. His athleticism and leaping ability also left some speechless.The talents off the charts. He can do anything you want on a football field, Weigman said. He could throw the ball a million yards down the field. He can run the ball. It just takes time with the playbook. I was there as a freshman, I know exactly how it feels. When things start slowing down, hes gonna be a dude. Hes gonna be a real special player at this university.Other veteran players were impressed by Hendersons poise. The quarterback is seemingly unfazed by his own status as the highest-rated recruit in Houston program history.Thats a little brother to us, wide receiver Amare Thomas said. Were bringing him in, teaching him to wait and letting him know that when its time for him to be him and he has to be ready. Hes a down to earth guy. Hes cool. He has the hype. He could be the most uptight guy if he wanted to be, but hes a cool kid.Weigman isnt Hendersons only mentor within Houstons facilities. This offseason, Fritz hired Michael Bishop as an offensive assistant. Bishop, a former Heisman runner-up at Kansas State, coached Henderson for all four seasons of his high school career at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences. Their relationship dates back even further, as Bishop was present for Hendersons first practice as an eighth grader.Now the former Heisman candidate is working to develop the highest-rated recruit in Houston history into a future Heisman candidate.Im super thankful to have someone like that in my corner, like a mentor somebody who has always been there through the rough times, Henderson said of Bishop. Hes seen all the growths and droughts in my football career in high school. Just for him to be here is really special.With Weigman, Bishop, and Houstons coaching staff all surrounding him, Henderson plans to approach his first collegiate season as a sponge, absorbing as much information as possible before his playing days arrive. The quarterback knew when he arrived at Houston that he would likely spend 2026 learning behind Weigman. Two weeks before Mizzou volleyball opens its 2026 season, there are still plenty of questions left to answer.That was perhaps the biggest takeaway from Saturdays Black and Gold scrimmage at the Hearnes Center.With the Tigers season opener against Western Illinois approaching, several position battles remain wide open. While that might make some fans nervous, it also gives coach Dawn Sullivan and her staff plenty to work with before the season officially begins.View this post on InstagramHere are my three biggest takeaways from Saturdays scrimmage.1. The pins are still very much up for grabsIf you were looking for a clear answer at outside hitter or right side Saturday, you probably left with more questions than answers.And that is not necessarily a bad thing.The Tigers have a crowded group competing for playing time on the pins. Freshman Ceylin Kuyan showed exactly why Sullivan has been excited about her. When I spoke with Sullivan last week, she highlighted Kuyans combination of touch and power.That combination was on display Saturday.Sophomore Paige Felder also made an impression, continuing to show why Sullivan has talked about her as someone who could play a major role this season.Then there are the veterans.Junior Claire Morrissey and senior Kimani Johnson have experience playing both outside hitter and right side. Sophomore Maca Lobaglio also has experience at right side, giving Sullivan several options to move pieces around.With the offense expected to run heavily through the pins, finding the right combination will be one of the biggest decisions of the preseason.And with the season opener only two weeks away, there is still no obvious answer.That makes this position battle the biggest takeaway coming out of the scrimmage.2. The libero position will look very differentFor the first time during the Sullivan era, Maya Sands is not going to be the one wearing the libero jersey.That alone makes this season feel a little different.Sands became a steady presence in the back row during her time at Missouri, and her routine defensive heroics are no longer something the Tigers can count on.Sophomore Zoey Matias-Lopez is back, but she is expected to continue splitting her time between libero and defensive specialist duties.That puts a significant amount of responsibility on Evansville transfer Ainoah Cruz.Cruz will have the unenviable task of stepping into a role that was occupied by the most recognizable defensive player of the Sullivan era.The Tigers looked like a team still figuring things out defensively Saturday, which is understandable with a new libero and several new pieces.But replacing Sands is going to be one of the biggest adjustments for Missouri this season.3. The middles might be the biggest bright spotWhile the pins and libero positions remain question marks, the middle blocker position gave plenty of reason for optimism.Freshman Eva Smith might have had the brightest introduction to Mizzou fans Saturday.At 6-foot-4, Smith is the tallest player Sullivan has had at Missouri, and she plays like it. She has the size to become a major presence at the net but also moves well enough to fit into Sullivans fast-paced system.If she continues developing, Smith could quickly become a fan favorite.Redshirt sophomore Tia Phinezy also looked comfortable. With three years in Columbia and familiarity with Sullivans system, Phinezy moved well and consistently used her high hands to make plays.Utah State transfer Lauren Larkin also showed why she fits the mold of the type of middle Sullivan likes. She is not the biggest middle on the roster, but she moves extremely well and brings the speed needed to operate in Missouris system.Honorable mention: The setter battle is still aliveThere was one notable absence Saturday.Redshirt junior Sierra Dudley did not dress for the scrimmage, meaning the battle between Dudley and junior Nina Mandovic for the starting setter job remains very much up in the air.That is one question I will be watching closely when Missouri takes the court again.The Tigers will get another chance to answer some of these questions Saturday against Drake in their exhibition match.For now, though, the Black and Gold scrimmage made one thing clear: There is still plenty to figure out before the season begins.And honestly, that makes the next few weeks pretty fun.The Fifth Set will be back Friday, and First Serve will return next Monday.
