SPORTS.YAHOO.COMChristian Parker 'not a fan' of Jerry Jones' desire to stir Cowboys soap operaChristian Parker 'not a fan' of Jerry Jones' desire to stir Cowboys soap opera originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.New defensive coordinator Christian Parker arrived in Dallas with an appetite for tighter practice operations. Early in training camp at Oxnard, the Dallas Cowboys briefly restricted media from recording team drills. It was a small but deliberate step toward limiting what opponents could pull off the internet before the season. It didn't last long. The franchise abandoned the policy shortly after putting it in place, with beat reporters confirming they were now allowed to resume coverage of team drills with video highlights. It aligns with Jerry Jones' policy, who said last year that the Cowboys are a soap opera 365 days a year and when things get quiet, "I stir it up." Restricting the cameras was never going to survive under that philosophy. This year at Oxnard, thousands of fans attended practice with many filming freely. On Saturday, the organization literally allowed a full practice session to be broadcast locally in Dallas and streamed online.New defensive coordinator Christian Parker made his feelings clear on 105.3 The Fan about it, saying, "It's weird. Not a fan."Parker expressed concern that early-season, open-filming policies allow opponents to identify schematic tells before enough game tape is available. However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who grew up under his father Marty's strict no-filming policy, has landed in a different place."We all have each other's playbooks. We all know what we run. We have videos going back decades that we can pull up," Schottenheimer said. "It doesn't bother me We like eyes on us with the Cowboys. It's a good thing. We're proud of our brand."For now, the open-filming policy remains in place at Oxnard, with Jones' approach securing buy-in from the coaching staff.More NFL news:Stephen A. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLions urged to cut ties with Aidan Hutchinson complementLions urged to cut ties with Aidan Hutchinson complement originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Ever since the Detroit Lions brought on defensive end Aidan Hutchinson back in 2022, there's been a question about who they're going to have support him. He's one of the most talented edge rushers in the league, no doubt, but he can't do it alone. The Lions have never really gone out on a limb to secure an A-lister to go with Hutchinson. That's been problematic. But, that's just the reality. Now, Dan Campbell, Aaron Glenn and Detroit are being encouraged to trade one of their defensive pieces ahead of the new season, while they can still get something in return for him.Lions told to part ways with Aidan Hutchinson complementThe Lions only recently signed edge rusher Payton Turner to a deal back in March. But, even though he's the new kid on the block, the team is already being encouraged to trade him away.In a piece out on Monday, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report tells the Lions to trade Turner."The Detroit Lions have been steadily searching for edge-rushers to play opposite standout Aidan Hutchinson," he notes. "While they're still looking for their top complement, they may have a surplus of depth entering the preseason."It's certainly the case that instead of getting one solid guy to stand with Hutch, the Lions have signed a bunch of smaller stars to the roster at his position. That has created a bit too many."If the Lions are happy with their edge depth early in the preseason, Turner would be a logical trade candidate," Knox adds in the piece. "He only showed occasional flashes in his four seasons with the New Orleans Saintsand he missed last season for the Cowboys with a rib injurybut the 2021 first-round pick does have the sort of alluring draft pedigree that will still interest some teams."More NFL news:Lions star pulls off gross on-field antic that has the crowd going wildLas Vegas announces punishment decision for Maxx Crosby, Kirk Cousins fightLions QB Jared Goff gets the shaft compared to Caleb Williams, Jordan Love0 Comments 0 Shares 149 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJets, Aaron Glenn could part ways with $13 million player soonJets, Aaron Glenn could part ways with $13 million player soon originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Jets are once again trying to come back from a difficult season. How difficult? Well, we all know the Jets were 3-14 in their first season with Aaron Glenn as their head coach. That's not a great look, but these things can take time. Now, the Jets are in training camp. They're gearing up for what they hope is finally a comeback season. But, all the pieces may not be in place yet.New York is being encouraged to trade one of their roster pieces before the guys take the field in September. In return, they could get some good draft capital.New York Jets encouraged to part ways with $13 million player who simply isn't working outIn a feature out on Monday, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report encourages the Jets to trade defensive tackle Mazi Smith, who's on a deal worth around $13 million, according to research from Over the Cap. They acquired him from the Dallas Cowboys last year, but it never really gelled.Last season, Smith only played in three games. He also played just 25% of the defensive snaps when he was on the field. Those aren't exactly stats that scream, "Let's keep this guy for a long time.""The reality is that Smith was never a centerpiece of the Williams tradewhich netted New York a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 first-rounder," Knox states in the feature. He adds, "It's hard to envision Smith seeing a legitimate opportunity in 2026, let alone sticking around beyond the season." That's a tough assessment, but Smith may simply be a better fit somewhere else.More NFL news:Las Vegas announces punishment decision for Maxx Crosby, Kirk Cousins fightLions star pulls off gross on-field antic that has the crowd going wildLions QB Jared Goff gets the shaft compared to Caleb Williams, Jordan Love0 Comments 0 Shares 154 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sues Crystal Palace for defamation over ultras bannerNottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has filed a defamation lawsuit against Crystal Palace after fans unfurled a banner which showed him holding a gun to player Morgan Gibbs-Whites head.Marinakis legal team lodged the claim on Monday, nearly a year on from the banners display during the Premier League clash between the two clubs at Selhurst Park. The banner, raised in the Holmesdale Road End where the club ultras are situated, referenced Forest talisman Gibbs-Whites sudden transfer U-turn and the awkward interview he subsequently did with the club, during which Marinakis was anchored to his side. The banner also included unsubstantiated claims against Marinakis, a Greek shipping magnate, who has repeatedly, vehemently denied the allegations. He is now suing in the High Court, with his defamation claim against Crystal Palace and Persons Unknown.Marinakis lawyers, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have been approached for comment by The Independent. It is the latest action to be taken against Palace as a result of the banner, after the FA charged the club in November with failing to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) didnt behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting and/or provocative way at this match. Palace were fined 50,000 four months later, with the FA adding: The fact that Crystal Palace had a policy to prevent banners being smuggled into the stadium demonstrates that it was aware of the risk. The game on 24 August last year took place amid heightened tensions between Palace and Forest after the Eagles were demoted from the Europa League due to a breach of multi-ownership regulations.Forest voiced their concerns over this to Uefa and were then the beneficiaries of Palaces removal, which lifted them into Europes second-tier competition.0 Comments 0 Shares 159 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPatchy Mix loses big on scale at RIZIN 54 weigh-insPatchy Mix's post-Bellator career continued trending in the wrong direction Monday as he took another L, this time on the scale. For his bantamweight co-main event vs. Shoko Sato in at RIZIN 54, Mix weighed in at 140.7 pounds (63.85kg) a staggering 6.3 pounds over the limit of 134.4 (61kg). While the fight will go on, Mix is ineligible to earn a victory, per RIZIN rules, which state that an overweight fighter's win will automatically be overturned to a no contest. Also, RIZIN elevated another bout to serve as the co-main event over Mix vs. Sato as a consequence of Mix's weight miss.Patchy Mix weighed in 6.3 lbs over the limit for his 2nd fight with RIZIN this morning. The fight, which is the Co-Main, is still on....but an absolutely brutal weight miss. pic.twitter.com/e5q9XHLBARhttps://t.co/uHlcm4nB10 Spinnin Backfist (@SpinninBackfist) August 10, 2026It's a continued fall from grace for Mix, who as recently as 2024 was discussed by MMA pundits as perhaps being the best bantamweight in the world while he was Bellator champion. But since departing Bellator, which was absorbed by PFL, things have fallen apart. Mix had a chance to make his mark in the UFC but lost his first two octagon appearances to Mario Bautista (unanimous decision) in June 2025 and Jakub Wikacz (split decision) four months later, leading to his abrupt UFC release.
