Larry Fitzgerald received the ultimate football honor over the weekend, officially being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In response to that news, his former team announced it will also honor the franchise legend.The Arizona Cardinals will honor Fitzgerald ahead of the teams Oct. 25 game vs. the Denver Broncos. Fitzgerald will have his number retired by the team and be inducted into its Ring of Honor, per ESPNs Adam Schefter. The 17-year NFL veteran spent his entire career with the Cardinals, shattering a number of franchise records, including most receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns with the team. If you expand those numbers outside of just the Cardinals, Fitzgerald ranks second all-time in receiving yards, second all time in receptions and sixth all-time in receiving touchdowns. He was as elite and consistent as they come. Despite his excellence, Fitzgerald never won a Super Bowl with the Cardinals. He was often plagued by poor quarterback play during his tenure with the team, a testament to his ability to produce no matter his situation. The Cardinals did make it to the Super Bowl once with Fitzgerald. He turned in an unbelievable performance during that playoff run, hauling in 30 passes for 546 yards and seven touchdowns in four games. His 546 receiving yards in one postseason broke a record previously held by Jerry Rice. Fitzgerald had a fantastic performance in Super Bowl XLIII, hauling in seven passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown nearly won the team the game. With the Cardinals trailing 20-16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fitzgerald caught a short pass over the middle and then surged past the defense for a 64-yard score to put the Cardinals up 23-20 with 2:37 left.But it wasnt meant to be, as Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers charged down the field at hit Santonio Holmes with a game-winning touchdown pass with :35 seconds to go. Holmes toe-tapping catch in the corner of the end zone is considered one of the best catches in Super Bowl history. The Cardinals made the playoffs just three other times during Fitzgeralds tenure, never again reaching the Super Bowl.

Turki Alalshikh is one of the world's most powerful boxing promoters [Getty Images]Saudi Arabia government official Turki Alalshikh has abandoned his proposed takeover of Derby County.The deal with Alalshikh's Lion Sport looked set to go ahead, having been sanctioned by the English Football League (EFL) and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR).But Derby were told on Monday that Alalshikh no longer wanted to continue with the purchase of his controlling stake."For the benefit of any doubt, the club is now off the market," a club statement said."It will continue to operate under the loyal, committed and unwavering support of Clowes Developments."In a statement on social media, Alalshikh thanked those at Derby County for their involvement in the proposed deal, but suggested the time it took to be ratified meant he had to withdraw."We understood that the IFR process takes time and fully respect the importance of that," he posted on X. "But unfortunately with the season already started, it would leave us with no time to prepare the team or the club for the season ahead. "After careful consideration, we don't feel it is right to proceed at this time without the necessary preparation in place, but we will remain in conversation with the club and see what is possible in the future."A deal for Alalshikh, the co-founder of boxing promotion company Zuffa, to take a controlling stake in the Championship club had been on the table with the football regulator since May.An IFR spokesperson said: "The IFR has a statutory duty to thoroughly test all prospective owners of a club in the top five divisions of men's football."The assessment was completed in 55 days out of the 90 days allowed by law. "The IFR had taken a 'minded-to decision' to approve the bid before the start of the 2026-27 season. However, the hosts faced four Major League pitchers on rehab assignment with the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers over the week-long set. Salt Lake fell in five of the six games, as the losing compounded into a franchise-tying 11-game losing streak before being snapped on Saturdays Harry Potter Night.Series recapRehabbing MLBers Yusei Kikuchi and Blake Snell created a marquee pitching showdown on Tuesday, taking the Freeway Series to the Farm. However, seven early runs from Oklahoma City soared the visitors to a 10-6 victory. Consecutive four-run frames throttled the Comets to a 12-2 Wednesday win over the Utah Dirty Sodas. Logan Porters solo home run and Niko Kavadas RBI double helped avoid a shutout in Salt Lakes ninth straight defeat.The losing streak increased to 10 on Thursday, despite the Bees holding a 3-1 lead after seven innings. Five unanswered Oklahoma City runs doomed Salt Lake, as it marked four straight home losses. Five walks and 10 hits over the first three innings contributed to an 11-0 advantage that the visitors would not relinquish in an 11-5 Friday night win. Notably, the Beehive State squad also last secured a six-game series win against Reno in Nevada on June 9-14.Prospect watchWith the trade deadline concluding, Salt Lake got a shakeup with some of the rosters Top-30 guys. Three Angels Top-30 prospects remain on the roster, and all three appeared in the six-game set against the Dodgers highest affiliate. The Halos fourth-ranked prospect and second-highest-ranked position player, Nelson Rada, played in four of the six games after struggling in Sugar Land during Salt Lakes last series.Rada improved and looked more comfortable despite striking out six times in 18 at-bats. He finished the series 5-for-18 (.278) with a double, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. The soon-to-be 21-year-old is now slashing .280/.377/.361 with a .738 OPS. He also surpassed the 100-hit milestone on the season and now sits at 104 hits. Rada was excellent in the field throughout the series, highlighted by no errors, diving catches and multiple run-downs on balls. He hasnt committed an error since July 26.Raudi Rodriguez is in his fourth year in the professional ranks, all with the Angels organization. The recently turned 23-year-old has played in 261 career games between Rookie Level, Single-A and Double-A, with 247 of those coming in the outfield. He is the Angels 14th-ranked prospect and debuted with the Bees on Aug. 4 after getting called up from Double-A Rocket City. He hit .261 with 14 doubles, 12 homers, two triples and 42 RBIs in 95 games with the Trash Pandas. In five games against the Comets this series, the Dominican Republic native went 5-for-21 with three walks, two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, while striking out just twice. He was excellent in right and center field, committing no errors in his games played.Joel Hurtado enters his fifth year with the Angels organization and his second season with the Bees. The Dominican Republic native, who is the Angels 22nd-ranked prospect, had tallied 326 innings in his career before being called back up to the Bees for this series, spanning from Rookie Ball to Triple-A.Signing for $10,000 in June 2022, Hurtado has worked his way up through the Angels farm system and has 72 career outings across four seasons. With 59 starts, he has shown he can be a starter or long reliever to give the pitching staff length out of the pen. The righty got the starting nod on Friday night and looked uncomfortable, throwing just 1.1 innings while giving up seven runs on six hits, walking three and striking out just one. Hitters hit .600 against him in the game. Those same jerseys were worn on Sunday as superstitions abounded and the homestand concluded with Bark in the Park. Only 12 home games remain on the schedule, as the season inches closer to the conclusion.
