Celtic controlled huge periods, but Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty still looked exposed whenever Kilmarnock sent direct balls beyond the midfield. That will worry the coaching staff.European opponents wont need many invitations. Celtic can dominate Scottish matches while still leaving gaps that sharper Champions League sides would punish without hesitation. Alistair Johnstons withdrawal at half-time added another issue. Celtic looked less secure after he went off, which again puts the spotlight on the depth behind the first-choice defenders.Arne Engels brought plenty of quality, although Celtic lost the ball too often in awkward areas and conceded needless fouls. Those moments disrupted their rhythm.Celtic must tighten up despite another huge winOut wide, Yang Hyun-jun and Camilo Durn produced flashes of quality, but both occasionally chose the wrong final pass or held the ball too long. Hgh found himself waiting for service during parts of the second half.Still, Celtic scored five away from home, and their 11m striker had the match sewn up before half-time. The warning signs remain, though. Five goals looked brilliant. The defending for Kilmarnocks one didnt.

While Christian McCaffrey did not practice on Monday, the team is not concerned about his status heading into the season. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak told reporters after the session that the club was "just managing" McCaffrey's workload with the off day. "Hes a little sore, but hes doing fine, so well just kind of manage him as we go," Kubiak said in his press conference. The 49ers have had a wave of injuries throughout training camp, with some much more serious than others. But with McCaffrey entering his 10th season, the team is doing its best to keep McCaffrey fresh.Christian always kind of has his rep count in any camp, Kubiak said. You guys are aware of the adjustments weve made to our schedule to kind of keep them from having too many off days. But in terms of his rep load, were right on track with where we want to be. And, hes a veteran player, so you have to monitor him and get him ready for the first week.McCaffrey, who turned 30 in June, led the league with 413 touches last year. He finished the season with 311 carries for 1,202 yards with 10 touchdowns and caught 102 passes for 924 yards with seven TDs. He had 37 more touches in two postseason games, rushing 26 times for 83 yards along with 11 catches for 105 yards with two TDs.

On the fringes of the MLB playoff race and in need of starting pitching, the Washington Nationals are calling up one of their top prospects.Jackson Kent will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester this week, The Athletics Spencer Nussbaum reports. The 6-foot-3 left-hander is ranked as the Nationals No. 8 prospect by MLB.com. He was Washingtons 2024 fourth-round pick out of Arizona. Kent, 23, began the season with the Nationals Double-A affiliate. After seven starts with a 2.35 ERA and strikeout rate of 11.2 per nine innings, he was promoted to Triple-A. In 13 starts, Kent has compiled a 4.35 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings. However, the team moves at last weeks MLB trade deadline indicate that the front office is looking ahead toward next season and want to get a look at some young talent. Kent will take one of the openings created in the Nationals rotation when Foster Griffin was traded to the Cleveland Guardians last week. Griffin, 31, was named to the NL All-Star team with a 3.23 ERA and 12-3 record, along with 116 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings. But he was set to be a free agent after the season and Washington received four prospects in exchange. The Nationals also designated pitcher Zack Littell for assignment after he recorded a 4.97 ERA in 23 appearances (14 starts) with 70 strikeouts in 112 1/3 innings. Washington received starting pitcher Connelly Early from the Boston Red Sox in a trade for infielder Curtis Mead. However, Early (3.44 ERA, 9.1 Ks/9) hasnt pitched since June 30 while dealing with left elbow inflammation. He was working toward beginning a minor-league rehab assignment until encountering forearm tightness. Nationals starting pitchers have combined for a 4.59 ERA this season, third-worst in the NL. The staffs overall 4.71 ERA is second-worst in the league. Kent was ranked as the organizations third-best pitching prospect this season. But Travis Sykora is recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent a year ago. And Jarlin Susana hasnt pitched this season after having right lat surgery. He is reportedly scheduled to make an appearance for the Nationals high-Single A affiliated this week.

Hull FC centre Davy Litten will join fellow Super League club Wakefield Trinity at the end of the 2026 season.The 23-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with Wakefield, who are currently third in the Super League table.In their statement confirming Litten's exit, Hull said they had accepted a "significant six-figure transfer fee from the West Yorkshire side following a transfer request from the player".Wakefield said the transfer fee was "substantial" but the figure is undisclosed.Litten told Wakefield's club website: "I'm grateful to be signing for such a great club, the opportunity is something which really excites me and I can't wait to get started in 2027."As a player you can see where the club is going on and off the field and it really impresses me. While Manny Diaz and the Duke coaching staff try to figure out who will be the starting quarterback for the Blue Devils once the season-opening matchup against Tulane arrives on Sept. 5, starting center Matt Craycraft is already positive about what the identity of this years offense is going to be."I think, at the end of the day, we want to run the ball a lot more this year," Craycraft said.While the running game was there for the Blue Devils last season, especially in the form of true freshman Nate Sheppard, a majority of Dukes offense depended on Darian Mensah and the passing game. The Blue Devils finished 11th in the FBS in passing offense, putting up 285.4 yards per game, while ranking 88th in rushing offense (138.14 yards per game).With Mensah now playing quarterback for ACC rival Miami and the competition to replace him between Walker Eget and Dan Mahan taking place this fall camp, it makes sense that offensive coordinator Jonathan Brewer would focus on pounding the ball on the ground, especially to start the season.It also helps to have a back in Sheppard, who finished off his historic freshman season with 22 carries for 170 yards and a score in the bowl win against Arizona State.Craycraft, who has started 28 straight games for Duke at the center position, knows what his teammate is capable of."What doesn't impress you?" Over the weekend, former Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins leveled explosive claims against Steve Keim, who was Arizonas general manager from 2013 to 2022. In a now-deleted post, Hopkins accused Keim of a set up regarding his failed test for performance-enhancing drugs ahead of the 2022 season.Now, the story has taken another twist.The background is this: According to a July investigation from Barrons, a man named Mohamed Coulibaly ran an e-commerce scam with a company called Motion Ventures. The scam targeted professional athletes, as Coulibaly convinced the athletes to invest in fraudulent shopping sites. Coulibaly, who originally denied the claims in an interview with The New York Post, was found dead in his pool earlier this month.Over the weekend, multiple Instagram posts including the one to which Hopkins replied, from an influencer named Tony Robinson connected Keim to the scheme, although it was not clear at the time how Keim was involved.But on Monday, Aug. 10, Pro Football Talk obtained a pitch deck from Motion Ventures that listed Keim as the chief operation/growth officer. According to the report, Keim was the only person other than Coulibaly featured in the pitch deck.Steve plays a critical role in guiding expansion strategy, evaluating new opportunities, and supporting leadership across divisions by navigating high-stakes decision-making, managing large budgets, and leading multidisciplinary teams as Motion Ventures continues to scale nationally and internationally, the pitch deck explained, according to Pro Football Talk.It is not clear, however, whether Keim was involved in the alleged scam or if he like the targeted athletes was a victim of the scam.In a comment on Robinsons post, Keim purported to have direct messages in which Robinson wrote that Keim was blindsided and not involved in any scheme.
