SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCeltic aim subtle Rangers dig after Callum Wrights dramatic Hibs winnerCeltic aim subtle Rangers dig after Callum Wrights dramatic Hibs winnerCeltics social media team could not resist a subtle dig at Rangers following Derek McInnes sides 2-1 defeat to Hibernian. While the Hoops cruised to an emphatic victory away to Kilmarnock, McInnes endured a miserable first competitive game in the Ibrox dugout as Hibernian claimed a dramatic win.Josh Campbell fired the visitors ahead before Jordan Obitas late own goal appeared to have rescued Rangers a point. The hosts then went searching for a winner, only to be punished at the other end when Callum Wright struck in stoppage time to secure all three points for Hibs. The result leaves Rangers languishing in ninth place and already five points adrift of Celtic in the Premiership standings. There were no such problems for Shaun Maloneys men in Ayrshire as they produced a dominant display at Rugby Park.Summer signing Kasper Hgh stole the show by completing a stunning hat-trick inside the opening 35 minutes, while Benjamin Nygren and Luke McCowan were also on target.Michael Larsen grabbed a consolation for Kilmarnock, but it did little to take the shine off an impressive afternoon for the champions.Celtic then appeared to have some fun at Rangers expense when promoting their latest On the Road highlights package on social media. With Hibs match-winner Wright having just inflicted defeat on their city rivals, the Hoops account posted: Sundays done (W)right. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'I won Commonwealth bronze - then went back to work at McDonald's'Judoka Summer Shaw has her sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics [Getty Images]"Someone said to me: 'It's crazy that you can win a Commonwealth medal and then come back to work.'"So 22-year-old Summer Shaw decided to make a TikTok video about her swift change of scenery while on a work break at a McDonald's restaurant. The five-second clip that Shaw posted "for funsies" went viral, and has been watched over one million times. Then came the comments..."People were asking: 'How is this possible?'"They were like: 'This shouldn't be allowed.'"'They've been good with me - it's hard to find jobs with flexible hours'Shaw won Scotland's first judo medal at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a bronze in the 48kg event."It's so cool when it's something you've dreamed of doing since you were eight years old - and suddenly you're there," Shaw told BBC Sport."To get there was crazy, and to come away with a medal was even better."Shaw won that medal on the last Friday of the Games. The next week, she was back at the family home in Surrey - and back to work."I picked up that part-time job [at McDonald's] when I was studying for my A-levels," said Shaw, who qualifies to represent Scotland through her father's side of the family. She has recently been based largely in Birmingham while studying for a biology degree. That means she has been close to the British Judo Olympic and Paralympic National Training Centre in Walsall."They've been really flexible with me, letting me work when I can. They've been really good with me," she said."It's mostly seasonal because my job's back at home, but when I am back it is like two, three shifts a week."It's hard to find jobs like it though that are flexible with your hours. I've heard from other people in their part-time jobs saying their boss won't give them the weekend off."Part-time jobs 'very common' for elite athletesShaw is a world-class competitor in a sport where the rewards may not make her wealthy."Obviously there's football, Formula One but I can't think of many more sports where it is a case of 'you've hit the top level and now you're financially settled'," she said.Shaw is given what is called an 'Athlete Performance Award' (APA), a financial grant from UK Sport and the National Lottery that contributes towards her living and training costs. There are different grades of support that athletes receive, depending on their results and prospect of medal-winning performances.Shaw told BBC Sport that it was "very common" for athletes in sports like judo to have another source of income."The money I get [APA] covers my living expenses, which is a blessing and not to be taken for granted," she said."But, for example, the next competition I've paid for myself because it wasn't funded by British Judo."Going to Peru [for the Grand Prix] has cost me quite a bit of money and then I'm not really getting that back from anywhere else."I'm also a normal person! Like, I want to save for a house."Athletes can also earn money through sponsorships, something Shaw says would be a "game-changer" for an athlete at the present stage of her career."It just means you can take every single opportunity put it towards competitions that I don't get funded."Shaw also decided to set up a GoFundMe page at the start of the year, which she sees as a way of helping to fund her dream of going to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.'Superman also had a side hustle'Scroll through the TikTok comments on her video about returning to work, and you get a taste of the public reaction: "This is crazy", "insane to me".Another comment reads simply: "Superman also had a side hustle."Which begs the question would Shaw continue with this work if she did have a sponsor?"I've met so many of my close friends there, and my boyfriend! So I owe a lot of good things in my life to that McDonald's," she said."But obviously it means I could be more selective, rather than thinking 'I really should work because I've got a competition coming up and I don't want it to take a hit to my bank account'."Was Glasgow a successful Games for Team Scotland? Shaw takes judo bronze but is already eyeing revenge in India0 Comments 0 Shares 147 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDominique Malonga ends Storm nightmare with monster performanceDominique Malonga ends Storm nightmare with monster performance originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Seattle Storm finally have a reason to celebrate again. After enduring more than a month without a victory, Seattle snapped its franchise-record-tying 11-game losing streak Monday night with a 97-88 win over the Chicago Sky at Climate Pledge Arena.Dominique Malonga made sure the painful skid ended there. The 20-year-old All-Star delivered 26 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals, shooting 9-of-14 from the field in one of her most complete performances of the season.Seattle never trailed, built a 17-point advantage and survived a dangerous late push from Chicago to secure its first victory since defeating the Los Angeles Sparks on July 6.We were fed up, Malonga said afterward. That frustration turned into Seattles most satisfying night of an otherwise difficult season.Dominique Malonga takes over for StormSeattle entered Monday with a 6-28 record, no remaining path to the playoffs and 11 consecutive losses hanging over the franchise. None of that was apparent during the opening half. The Storm controlled the game from the beginning and carried a 47-33 lead into halftime. Malonga established herself inside while Seattle played with an energy and freedom that had been missing during much of its losing streak.Storm coach Sonia Raman praised the growth Malonga has shown at only 20 years old.Dom continues to be a walking double-double, Raman said. Just the improvement that weve seen from her this season is incredible.Malonga received plenty of help.Natisha Hiedeman scored 18 points, handed out nine assists and converted all 12 of her free-throw attempts. Zia Cooke added 16 points off the bench, including seven during the fourth quarter.Jordan Horston started in place of injured rookie Flaujae Johnson, who was unavailable because of a left ankle injury. Horston finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes.Seattle led for approximately 94 percent of the contest and held a 50-33 advantage early in the third quarter. The Storm appeared to be cruising toward a comfortable victory before Chicago made one final charge.Zia Cooke delivers after Skys late comebackThe Sky never held a lead, but they nearly erased Seattles advantage during the closing minutes. DiJonai Carrington stole an errant pass from Cooke and converted a fast-break layup, cutting the Storms lead to 84-82 with 2:52 remaining. It would have been understandable if doubt crept in.Seattle had lost 14 consecutive games decided in clutch situations, defined as contests within five points during the final five minutes. The Storm had repeatedly come close during their losing streak without finding a way to finish. This time, they responded.Malonga scored on a layup before Cooke recovered from her costly turnover by drilling a corner 3-pointer. The shot pushed Seattles lead to 89-82 with 2:12 left and sent the crowd of 11,655 into a frenzy.Hiedeman then sealed the victory by making four free throws over the final 22 seconds. When the buzzer sounded, Seattles players remained on the court to enjoy a celebration that had been delayed for far too long. Horston hugged and exchanged high-fives with fans while Hiedeman fired souvenirs into the stands with a T-shirt cannon.Man, it feels great, Horston said. Weve been coming close in games. We got the fight. We got the effort. We got the everything. Its just like were just not pulling out those games. On Monday, the Storm finally did.MORE:Angel Reese earns fitting new nickname after making Dream historyDiJonai Carrington erupts in returnCarrington nearly spoiled Seattles celebration with the best scoring performance of her WNBA career. Playing two days after being ejected for a Flagrant 2 foul against Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, Carrington came off the Chicago bench and scored a career-high 26 points in 27 minutes. She made all 10 of her free throws and provided the driving force behind the Skys second-half comeback. Kamilla Cardoso contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Courtney Vandersloot added 13 points. Chicago played without leading scorer Sydney Taylor because of a groin injury and fell to 12-21.The Sky remain in the postseason race, but losing to the team at the bottom of the standings represented a significant missed opportunity. For Seattle, the victory was about more than ending an ugly streak. The Storm are 7-28 and already eliminated from playoff contention, but their remaining nine games offer Malonga, Horston, Cooke and the rest of a young roster an opportunity to continue developing together. We know what this year was about, Malonga said. It was about building something. It was about growing together, and I think thats what were doing.Seattle will attempt to build on the breakthrough when it hosts the Portland Fire on Friday. Chicago continues its road trip Wednesday against the Golden State Valkyries. One victory cannot erase the Storms difficult season. It did, however, end 35 days of frustration and provide a glimpse of what Seattles promising young core could eventually become. After 11 straight losses, Malonga and the Storm could finally walk off their home court smiling.More WNBA news:Old DiJonai Carrington-Caitlin Clark video resurfaces after Sophie Cunningham foulA'ja Wilson vs. Olivia Miles debate is on with Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers lurkingChiney Ogwumike reacts to WNBAs Caitlin Clark suspension decisionWhy Indiana lieutenant governor is calling for Stephanie White's firing0 Comments 0 Shares 176 Views 0 Reviews
