PHILADELPHIA Darius Cooper made for a nice story last season.\n That's when the undrafted free agent out of Tarleton State in Texas impressed the Eagles enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster and became known as a "dirty work" wide receiver.\n But making the 53-man roster was supposed to be more difficult for Cooper this season.\n Sure, the Eagles traded away A.J. Brown, but they still had DeVonta Smith as a No. 1 receiver. They also drafted Makai Lemon in the first round, traded for Dontayvion Wicks, and signed veteran free agents Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore.\n Buy Philadelphia Eagles tickets\n And yet, through nearly two weeks of training camp, Cooper has stood out. That was evident on Aug. 10. \n With Smith and Lemon missing their fifth straight practices to nurse hamstring injuries, Cooper was clearly Jalen Hurts' favorite target. Cooper caught a deep ball from Hurts early in the team drills, then added two more intermediate catches over the middle.\n But Cooper isn't the only receiver standing out. Moore has so far proven to be a reliable slot receiver, perhaps more so than Hollywood Brown, the Eagles' more significant free agent signing.\n All of it means Lemon's rookie season could be on hold.\n Of course, there is plenty of time for that to change. The Eagles have three preseason games, the first coming on Aug. 15 against the Ravens in Baltimore. They also have two days of practices on Aug. 19 and 20 with the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Massachusetts.\n But it seems unlikely that Lemon will play against the Ravens considering that he hasn't practiced since Aug. 3. \n As for Cooper, he's not taking anything for granted. He described his mindset going into camp last season.\n "Just having that chip on my shoulder, coming from a smaller school, undrafted free agent," Cooper said. "That's kind of been my life for my whole football career, coming from smaller schools, but still making a name for myself."\n Is that so-called chip still there?\n "Most definitely," Cooper said. "Last year is in the past, so this is a new year. I havethat same mentality for sure."\n Cooper's teammates are raving about him, too, such as cornerback Riq Woolen, whom Cooper beat for one of his catches on Aug. 10.\n "Coop is a great receiver, man," Woolen said. "And he continues to grow. When I got here in OTAs till now, every rep Ive gone against him, theres no shortage of hard work. He always 100%. Skirmish erupts, Jalen Hurts mixed day\n 1.DeVonta Smith\n Smith could miss all of training camp, suit up on game day and still be the Eagles' top receiver. Of course, the Eagles would love to have Smith back sooner. But it's clear that they're not going to rush him. After all, Smith has spent much of his college career at Alabama and all five of his previous NFL seasons with QB Jalen Hurts. \n 2. Dontayvion Wicks\n Eagles coach Nick Sirianni constantly compares Wicks to longtime Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen. Sirianni was the Chargers' wide receivers coach in 2017 when Allen had 102 catches for 1,393 yards. In three seasons with Green Bay, Wicks has a total of 108 catches for 1,328 yards. \n So, no, Wicks is not comparable to Allen in terms of production. But there are some similarities. And Wicks, who is 6-foot-1, 206 pounds, is perhaps the closest in style to A.J. Brown in that he can win on the outside, inside, and on 50-50 balls. \n "The things that remind me of Keenan are his ability to separate at the top of the route and the ability to get off press (coverage)," Sirianni said. "I thought Keenan was such a feisty player. Keenan would do the dirty work, and Tay has done the dirty work ... I think Tay's been doing a good job, and we'll look for him to continue to do so."\n 3. Darius Cooper\n Yes, the Eagles' slot receiver for the season opener could very well be Cooper. He's proven to be dependable so far, catching passes over the middle in traffic. He can also come through in the red zone, as he proved with a leaping one-handed catch in the back of the end zone in a recent practice. \n Think of former Eagles WR Jason Avant, who as a slot receiver a decade ago did the dirty work, was dependable on third down, and was a good blocking WR.\n 4. Elijah Moore\n Moore, the second-round pick of the Jets in 2021, is with his fourth team in three seasons and coming off a career-worst season split between the Bills and Broncos. Moore had just 9 catches for 112 yards in 2025. Yet Moore has proven to be a dependable slot receiver so far in camp. Moore is only two years removed from a career-high 61 catches in 2024 with the Browns. The season before, Moore had a career-high 640 yards.\n 5. Hollywood Brown\n As the perceived speed receiver, we haven't really seen much of that so far in camp. But it's still early, and Brown has time to show what he can do. That will especially true in the preseason games.\n 6. Makai Lemon\n Lemon has a ways to go to catch up. But first, he has to get on the field. Lemon missed the last two weeks of spring practices in June because of a hamstring injury. And he only participated fully in three practices in camp. The coaches have raved about Lemon spending time learning the offense. But watching and doing are two different things. It just seems like it's going to take a while into the season before Lemon can get playing time.\n Best of the rest\n Johnny Wilson: Wilson's size is a huge asset. But he has also dropped a few passes, and he is currently out with a knee injury.Quez Watkins: Yes, him. Watkins was the Eagles' WR2 in 2021 with 647 yards receiving. He spent all of last season on the practice squad, and appears headed back there. For now, he's providing depth.Samori Toure: Toure has made a few nice catches while getting work with the second and third teams. Britain Covey: Covey missed a few practices with a hamstring injury. Chelsea Green has confirmed that she suffered a broken orbital bone on the August 7 edition of WWE SmackDown, potentially putting her run as the Interim WWE Womens Champion in jeopardy.Chelsea Greens championship win was one of the unexpected highlights of WWE SummerSlam, with fans excited to see the underdog get this run, even if it was just as an interim champion while the actual WWE Womens Champion, Rhea Ripley, is recovering from a torn meniscus.How Chelsea Green got injuredOn the August 7 episode of SmackDown, Green suffered an injury during her match, which saw her team with Tiffany Stratton against Laney Reid and Fallon Henley of Fatal Influence. The finish saw Chelsea take the Rolling Encore Reid and Henleys finishing move and while it looked fine at the time, Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Reid landed on Greens face, breaking her orbital bone.Green confirmed the injury the next day on Instagram, saying that she needed time to process the injury. She was still wearing the title belt over her shoulder though, and WWE has yet to confirm whether or not Green will be required to vacate the Interim WWE Womens Championship.An orbital bone injury can vary greatly in severity. Its possible that Green will be able to continue wrestling in a protective mask while the injury heals in 4-8 weeks with no surgery required. However, it can also be far more severe, and could see Green on the shelf for months.As of the time of publication, we are still waiting to hear more on Greens status, but Alvarez also reports that the Rolling Encore finisher that caused the injury is viewed as not a good finish by some backstage in WWE, so with it causing this injury, its possible that Fatal Influence will be getting a new finishing move some time soon.

Thanks to a flurry of injuries, the Carolina Panthers have big needs in their wideout room, along their offensive line and off the edgeand that's before you get to any of the roster holes they had going into training camp.But some think the Panthers should go in a different direction if they add free-agent help before the 2026 season begins. Chau Smith-Wade has manned the position for two seasons, and undrafted second-year pro Corey Thornton is his only competition for that role... Turning 31 in a couple of weeks, Moore should have at least one more optimal year left in his playing career. He's a Band-Aid option at a weak spot in the Panthers' secondary.Panthers fans may remember Moore for chalking up two pick-sixes against their team back in 2023. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2021, where he tallied career-highs in tackles (102), interceptions (four) and passes defensed (13).But Moore may not be a fit in Carolina here in 2026.Yes, the primary slot defenders for the Panthers2025 undrafted free-agent signe Corey Thornton and 2024 fifth-round pick Chau Smith-Wadestill aren't established. Both, however, have shown promiseand it's difficult to justify signing a veteran to compete with them when the team has so many other openly bleeding wounds at premium positions.This proposed scenario may be something to keep an eye on if the Panthers get poor results at the start of the regular season.
