Why Quinnen Williams Extension Could Prove That Cowboys Won Micah Parsons Trade
Colin Cowherd is ready to ask a question that some thought might have been unimaginable a year ago: Did the Dallas Cowboys actually win the Micah Parsons trade? A day after the Cowboys extended four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to a three-year, $105.9 million deal, Cowherd thinks there's momentum building toward the idea that Dallas won its trade with the Green Bay Packers. "People were freaking out about the Micah Parsons trade. I would make an argument by October or Thanksgiving, the Dallas Cowboys, it could be official, won the Micah Parsons deal," Cowherd said on Tuesday's edition of "The Herd." "You got Quinnen Williams, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle. By the way, when they traded Micah, initially, the Cowboys got worse. That gave them a better draft pick. That draft pick became Caleb Downs, who, to me, is the steal of the draft. I think there's an argument he could be the best player in the draft. "You don't get that if the Cowboys had two or three more wins [last season]. We overvalue non-quarterback stars in this league." The Cowboys acquired the star defensive tackle in a trade with the New York Jets ahead of the trade deadline last season, using some of the draft capital they got in the deal with the Packers for Parsons. Dallas received defensive tackle and three-time Pro Bowler Kenny Clark and first-round picks in 2026 and 2027 from Green Bay for Parsons. Then, they traded a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the Jets for Williams. As for the 2026 first-round pick the Cowboys received from the Packers, the Cowboys selected UCF Knights linebacker Malachi Lawrence with the No. 23 pick after a trade-back. Earlier in the draft, they traded up one spot to select Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs with the No. 11 pick. The Packers, meanwhile, saw Parsons have an encouraging debut season with the franchise, logging 12.5 sacks, earning his third career All-Pro honor and finishing third among edge defenders in overall grade (91.9), according to Pro Football Focus. However, Parsons' 2025 campaign ended after 14 games due to a torn ACL, which is expected to keep him off the field for at least the first month of the 2026 season. With Parsons sidelined, the Packers lost their last five combined games of the season (regular season and postseason), ending with an NFC wild-card round loss to the Chicago Bears. The two teams actually faced off in Week 4 of last season, playing to a 40-40 tie. Granted, the Cowboys went on to miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season, and their defense finished last in points allowed. However, with the reinforcements Dallas has received thanks to the Parsons trade, Cowherd thinks the Cowboys are on the rise. "I look at the Cowboys' roster, between Caleb Downs, Quinnen Williams and the roster flexibility, this is the best team they've had, in terms of overall talent, arguably in a decade," Cowherd later said. "The Cowboys are in a good spot."

Omarion Hampton's offensive coordinator gives warning about 2026 usage
The UNC football program does a solid job of producing pro-level talent, with the 2026 NFL Draft a rare exception. Several Tar Heels signed with teams afterwards, most notably Marcus Allen with the Minnesota Vikings.Omarion Hampton gave North Carolina another first-round selection, going 22nd overall to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. Hampton had a promising start to his rookie NFL season, highlighted by his first 100-yard game during the Chargers' Week 4, 21-18 loss at the New York Giants, but a fractured ankle forced him out of action for two months.Thinking of choosing Hampton for your Fantasy Football team this fall? Hampton's new offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel, revealed Hampton will be utilized in timeshare to start 2026."Theres good news and bad news, fantasy owners,"McDaniel told reporters during recent media availability. "Good news is, I see all three of those guys (Hampton, Kimani Vidal, Keaton Mitchell) producing at a very high level. The bad news is, I cant tell you which games those are."I like to have backs be fresh, just because I think it's a competitive advantage against a defense who's not subbing out."I'm not very comfortable, when a guy I can tell is in the zone, to take him out," McDaniel continued. "So, you kinda play hot hand once youre into games. Specifically, Ill use all three of those guys probably every game. The relative ratio that will be based on opponent and what we're asking the guys to do."Mike McDaniel cautioned fantasy football managers that while Omarion Hampton will get plenty of touches, he will face competition for carries. https://t.co/8j1COwRGef USA TODAY Sports (@usatodaysports) August 11, 2026Despite the ankle injury, Hampton still finished his rookie season with 737 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns, showcasing that same star power that turned heads during his three seasons in Chapel Hill. Hampton was First-Team All-ACC in both 2023 and 2024, helping UNC to a pair of bowl games, while finishing Top-4 in career rushing yards (3,565) and touchdowns (36).Entering Year Two, Hampton remains part of a Chargers team expected to compete in a loaded AFC West. Bucs' Luke Goedeke on fight with Jets: I'm not gonna get punked and not do anything about it
Buccaneers offensive tackle Luke Goedeke got into a practice-field skirmish in a joint practice with the Jets today, and afterward he said he'll never back down to anyone.Goedeke said the trouble began when Jets rookie David Bailey challenged him during a one-on-one drill, lost and shoved him."He called me out in one-on-ones and wanted to go against me and lost," Goedeke said of Bailey. "And then tried shoving me after that, and 52 [Kingsley Enagbare] I believe came from the side and just cheap-shotted me. That didn't start practice warm and fuzzy, that's for sure."Goedeke grabbed a Jets player's helmet and threw it, which he admitted afterward was the kind of thing that would get him flagged in a game."Obviously not the greatest decision by me, but with that being said, I'm always going to defend my players and defend myself for that matter," Goedeke said. "I'm not gonna get punked and not do anything about it on the football field. That comes with the game, especially in joint practices, you see stuff like this all the time. You try to limit it and make sure it doesn't happen in a game. But I'm always going to stick up for my guys and stick up for myself, I don't care what happens."

Rams Myles Garrett injury update is no cause for concern
The Los Angeles Rams had a big test on their schedule Tuesday as they welcomed the Dallas Cowboys for a joint practice. It was another chance for Sean McVays team to measure itself against different personnel before the preseason opener.Myles Garrett is the biggest addition of the Rams offseason. Los Angeles acquired the star pass rusher from the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster trade and expects him to anchor a defense that has looked impressive throughout training camp. Garrett has already made an impact in practice, including a pick-six during Saturdays session. His absence from Tuesdays work fueled major concerns. However, McVays latest update offered plenty of reason for Rams fans to relax.MORE:Ranking all 16 NFC teams heading into 2026 NFL season: From Arizonas full rebuild to the all-in RamsSean McVay provides reassuring Myles Garrett injury updateLos Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett. Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images.Garrett is still dealing with swelling in his knee, according to McVay, who said the Rams decided to hold him out of the joint practice as a precaution.According to ESPNs Sarah Barshop, Garrett told reporters he is feeling about 85%, while McVay said there have been no setbacks. This is not the first time the Rams have taken a cautious approach with Garrett during camp. He previously missed multiple practices because of lower-body soreness before returning to work. McVay called that issue nothing to worry about at the time.Rams have plenty of reason to protect Myles GarrettThere is little reason for Los Angeles to push the two-time Defensive Player of the Year in August. Garrett is entering his 10th NFL season after setting the leagues single-season sack record with 23 in 2025. He also became the first player since 1982 to record at least 12 sacks in six consecutive seasons. The Rams will continue monitoring the swelling, but Tuesdays decision appears to be precautionary rather than a sign of a significant setback. UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava makes The Athletic's 'Freaks List'
The UCLA Bruins football program had two players selected to The Athletics Freaks List created by Bruce Feldman that was released earlier this week. New UCLA pass rusher Sahir West came in at No. 34 with quarterback Nico Iamaleava being the other Bruins representative.Iamaleava came in at No. 67 and its easy to picture why Feldman values Iamaleavas athleticism. Iamaleava is a tall quarterback that has great speed and has shown flashes of brilliant arm strength. Those traits made Iamaleava a five-star recruit and put him in position to have a break-out 2026 campaign. The 6-5, 215-pound senior was the Bruins leading rusher in 2025, with 505 yards on 112 carries and four TDs. He also led UCLA with 10 runs of 20-plus yards in addition to completing 64 percent of his passes for 1,928 yards and 13 TDs with seven picks, Feldman wrote. The former five-star recruit has tantalizing athleticism that showed up in a big way when he led the Bruins to their first win over an AP top-10 team in 15 years when he accounted for five TDs in a 42-37 upset of then-No. 7 Penn State. The former volleyball standout vertical jumped 40 inches this offseason and clocked a 1.48 10-yard sprint. His 40-time was 4.57.Iamaleavas slight build might be a concern for NFL franchises looking at Iamaleava but the slender quarterback could be the face of an explosive UCLA offense in 2026 under new coaches Bob Chesney, Dean Kennedy and Derek Carr. This article originally appeared on UCLA Wire: UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava makes The Athletic's 'Freaks List'

Seahawks announce double throwback uniform game for Week 6 vs Broncos
Fantastic news all around on this fine Tuesday, as the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will surely make everyone's day with their uniform announcement. Both the Seahawks and Broncos are set to square off against one another to kick off Week 6 on Thursday Night Football this year. It is a clash between former AFC West rivals, so what better way to celebrate than for both to don their old threads. That's right folks, Throwback Thursday is BACK in a big way, as the Seahawks and Broncos will each be rocking their classic uniforms. The Seahawks and Broncos (former AFC West foes) have announced they will both be rocking their classic throwbacks against each other in Week 6 on Thursday Night Football pic.twitter.com/WygYd1rOfQ Kole Musgrove (@KoleMusgrove23) August 11, 2026The throwbacks return October 15. pic.twitter.com/Y0mJqjBk6Z Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) August 11, 2026Seattle announced three alternate uniform games for 2026 earlier this summer. They'll wear the throwbacks twice under the lights of prime time (Sunday Night Football vs the Chiefs, and Monday Night Football vs the Cowboys) and one game with their Nike Rivalries (Christmas Day vs the Rams). the NFL allows teams up to four games to wear alternate uniforms, and I was wondering what the Seahawks were planning to do with their final option. Now we know, and I couldn't be more pleased. Especially since the Broncos will be participating as well.Sadly, this does appear to mean the Seahawks will be sidelining their Action Green alternates for one more season. I know they are controversial among the 12th Man, but I personally love them. Alas, we wait for 2027 at the earliest to see if they return! Seattle will aim to change their luck with these double-throwback games. The Seahawks have played in two of these games, both of which were losses. Week 6 to the San Francisco 49ers, falling 36-24, and Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year in a narrow 38-35 shootout defeat.
