The depth in the San Francisco 49ers receiving corps was tested almost immediately when starting wide receiver Ricky Pearsall went down with an injury that required season-ending surgery and veteran WR Christian Kirk was sidelined by a calf issue. Now it looks like that depth is ready to hold up going into the regular season.After Pearsall and Kirk went out the 49ers saw veteran Mike Evans and rookie De'Zhaun Stribling also miss time with quad and hamstring issues, respectively. The result has been the emergence of veteran WR Demarcus Robinson, who stood out in the team's joint practice with the Tennessee Titans. Via ESPN's Nick Wagoner:Have said it repeatedly in this camp but will again here: Robinson has really developed a good rapport with Purdy. Those two had another big day today with some deep ones included. There was one rough day last week for that duo but they've otherwise been locked in.Robinson joined the 49ers last season and after serving a suspension to start the year went on to grab 22 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown. He also thrived in the postseason with six catches for 111 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers' wild card win vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. Entering training camp it appeared Robinson may be on the outside looking in at a roster spot with Kirk and a handful of young receivers looking to carve out places on the back of the depth chart. Now it looks like he's in line to be the team's No. 4 WR in a fully healthy version of the receiving corps. While a fourth WR isn't a player who's typically going to be productive, it does mean the 49ers have some quality depth that should allow them to withstand an injury at the top of the depth chart that pushes Robinson up one spot and expands his role. Last season he proved capable of taking on a bigger workload in the passing game, and this year's training camp is more evidence that the 49ers WR depth should be in good shape come Week 1. They could win tonights game and inch a smidge further from being a .500 ballclub or they could lose and be right back at .500. Its pretty easy to guess which direction they took.Despite leading 1-0 just three pitches into the game against a starter with a 7+ ERA on the year, the Rangers only scored one more run all game against a team so broken half their pitching staff have like single-digit big league careers and the entire pitching coaching staff was just fired.The Rangers had plenty of chances to score, and indeed eight opportunities with RISP, but capitalized on just one of them when they had to send in Jarred Kelenic to pinch hit, a guy they didnt think was as good as Jonah Bride like four days ago.Despite leadoff man Joc Pederson reaching in each one of his PAs tonight, Wyatt Langford and Corey Seager went a combined 0-for-8 with several missed chances to plate runs. When the Angels got a runner on from the bottom of their lineup, the top of the order capitalized and that was ultimately the difference.Scoring only two runs mattered because the Angels scored three of them. All three of them came in the bottom of the third when tonights starter Cody Bradford had one of those MacKenzie Gore-esque innings that got away from him with three of Anaheims five hits on the night coming in the frame.Despite the three-run third, Bradford ultimately went seven innings on just 75 pitches. Allowing three runs to the Angels shouldnt be demoralizing but for the Rangers, it apparently is.The Rangers have now lost four of five games in Anaheim this season and five of eight games overall against the Angels. If they dont make the playoffs, getting manhandled by a team the rest of the league wipes their shoes on is as good a reason as any for why.Player of the Game: Pederson hit the lead off home run and then drew three walks. He only scored one run. You do the math.Up Next: The Rangers and Angels will play again tomorrow night and hey, at an even later hour this time. RHP Cal Quantrill will make the start for Texas in Nathan Eovaldis stead while the Anaheims will turn to RHP George Klassen.The Wednesday night first pitch from the Big A is scheduled for 9:10 pm CT and will be aired nationally on ESPN.

And with the Angels win tonight, they need a win to avoid the cellar of the American League. How did it come to this?Tampa didnt wait to get going against As starter Mason Barnett. Just two batters into the game the Rays were up 2-0 thanks to a two-run blast off the bat of Rays slugger Junior Caminero, his 35th of the year which puts him in a tie for the league lead.Tampa would add on another in the third inning thanks to two walks and a wild pitch from Barnett, then three more in the fourth off back-to-back home runs, another two-run blast and a solo home run. After four innings the Rays had already tagged Barnett for six runs (five earned). That would be it for Barnett in this one, making way for lefty Brady Basso to start the fifth inning.Mason Barnett: 4 IP, 5 H, 6 R (5 ER), 3 BB, 0 K, 3 HR, 67 pitchesNot a great outing from Barnett and thats back-to-back duds from the righty. Theres no guarantee hes assured another start the next time through the rotation but with the lack of other options its likely he gets another go, which would come next against the team that traded him, the Kansas City Royals. Not a bad matchup to let the young pitcher go prove something.Meanwhile the As were facing Tampa Bay right-hander Nick Martinez. The offseason acquisition has been a godsend for the Rays and is having a career year at age 36. That strong season continued tonight against the slumping As. The As would add on two meaningless runs in the bottom of the ninth off a Carlos Cortes double but that was it as Martinez threw a 101-pitch complete game.A tough night all around in every facet of the game. The pitching didnt show up, the offense was silent outside of a Lawrence Butler home run, and now the As are facing the prospect of getting swept at home. Things are not going well in any sense of the word right now. Last place in the American League is a place we could possibly be by the end of the day tomorrow.The series wraps up tomorrow afternoon in whats expected to be a scorcher at the ballpark. Tampa Bay will go with right-hander Drew Rasmussen in the finale. Tampas ace is putting together another strong campaign leading the Rays pitching staff with a 2.75 ERA. Its not going to be an easy task for the As bats to inflict damage against him. The Athletics meanwhile have yet to announce their starter but it lines up to be Jack Perkins. Perhaps well have an opener for tomorrows series finale?

Arizona Cardinals fans will get to have a first look at what the offense and defense might look like in the regular season. Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Tuesday, the final day of training camp in Glendale, Arizona, that starters would get action in the team's preseason game on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday. "They're all going to play," LaFleur said. "We'll have our guys out there." He said that would include starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett, although the starters won't go for long. "(It) could be one drive (or a) max of two for those main guys, but yeah, they'll be playing and they know that."That means fans will see rookie running back Jeremiyah Love and everyone who is healthy in action. The Raiders are expected to play their starters, too, which means, for a series or two, we will see what the Cardinals starters look like against other NFL starters, albeit against the Las Vegas Raiders, who were the worst team in the NFL last season. The offense played well in the Hall of Fame Game. The defense did not. Will that be different when the starters are out there? That is what we are waiting to see. PHOENIX (AP) Kyle Karros hit a two-run homer before leaving the game following a collision with a teammate, Tomoyuki Sugano threw six solid innings and the Colorado Rockies rallied for a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.The D-backs fell to 64-57 as they fight for National League playoff position in a tight race. They're currently in a three-way tie with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres for the final two wild-card spots.Karros hit his game-tying shot in the sixth off D-backs lefty Mitch Bratt that made it 2-all. In the bottom of the inning, he had to exit the game after colliding with shortstop Ezequiel Tovar while both players were trying to field a ground ball. Karros appeared to hit his head and looked dazed while he sat on the ground for a few minutes, but the third baseman was eventually able to walk off the field. The Rockies didn't have an immediate update on the injury.Colorado's Hunter Goodman led off the seventh with a triple to the right-center gap and Mickey Moniak brought him home on a sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.Jordan Romano worked the ninth for his 11th save of the season in 14 chances, including five in seven chances while pitching for the Rockies.The D-backs took a 2-0 lead in the first after Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte both hit homers. Indee Morris grew up in Pleasant Grove, but her family moved to Florida for a few years. Luckily for the Vikings, shes back and has already put on a show. The junior is the teams leading scorer with six goals so far this season.Morris continued her early-season streak and scored a pair of goals Tuesday evening in a 2-0 road win over Timpanogos. She has been a force to be reckoned with for defenses, said Pleasant Grove head coach Matt Embley. Shes double, triple-teamed, which has allowed her to find the slots for us to be able to get in. Its amazing; every time she gets the ball, you think the balls going in the back of the net. So its fun to watch.While there were a lot of positives for Pleasant Grove, it still played like a team thats early in its season. The Vikings didnt fall into the trap of getting down early; instead, they pushed the pace early and won a pair of corner kicks within the first five minutes of the game. While they failed to capitalize, it was a good sign for Embley.We have really focused on when we get the ball deep on a corner kick, especially when we have numbers in the box, that we have runners in the box and we put our body on the line, Embley said. Unfortunately, we didnt get either one of those. But even if you dont score those, you create energy, and you create that positivity to want to go and do it again.Pleasant Grove finally broke through in the 16th minute as Morris broke away from the defense and found the back of the net. While it held the 1-0 lead into halftime, it was lucky not to be tied with Timpanogos.The Timberwolves had multiple strong chances at scoring. A shot from Maddi Searle from about 30 yards out hit the top crossbar. Another chance came up short when Samantha Young caught the Pleasant Grove keeper out too far and just missed a chip shot for the equalizer. Similar attempts were just wide in the second half, and while the Viking defense had its mistakes, they also showed their potential. Especially Vikings keeper Savanna Facer, who had two saves early in the first half to keep the clean sheet.Meanwhile, Morris pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 67th minute. It was her sixth goal of the year, which puts her on the early statewide leading scorer leaderboard. I love my team, said Morris. Its probably the best high school team Ive seen. Were such a good family, and were very connected. We just support each other. Without them, I definitely wouldnt have scored my goals.Pleasant Grove improves its record to 4-0 and has one last non-region game against Layton on Thursday. The Vikings open region play against Springville on Aug. 20.
