We have a lot of coaches that are head coaches in their position and I rely on them to be the best at what they do, and it allows me to focus on my strengths and delegate the things that Im not as good at.While Kubiak was mum about how many series the first unit will play, he mentioned that the coaches have a plan for those guys, suggesting that they will get at least some reps.Similar to Kubiak, this will also be the first NFL experience for the many rookies currently in the Raiders lineup.The rookie class, lead by first overall pick quarterback Fernando Mendoza, have had moments of brilliance throughout the summer, but this week will be crucial for their development. The coaching staff now has an idea about how the younger players can handle a NFL game day environment, and Thursdays game will be the first opportunity that they will face live game reps. For rookies like wide receiver Malik Benson and cornerback Hezekiah Masses, this also serves as an opportunity to prove that the hype that they have generated for themselves over the past couple of weeks is warranted.When I was at Alabama, coach [Nick] Saban, one thing he told me is, whether its game or practice, you just got to take it one day at a time and just dont let the moment get too big, said Benson. Just going to go in there and be grateful for my opportunity and just know that, at the end of the day, its just practice.Fortunately for Benson, he strung together another good day of practice, and he was far from the only Raider to have a good day on the field.The quarterbacks would put together some good tape, although Kirk Cousins was still the better option through team periods. That said, usual suspects such as Maxx Crosby, Tonka Hemingway and Keyron Crawford were able to get pressure at various points, and even depth pieces like Cody Lindenberg and Brennan Jackson were consistently making plays during their reps. The pressure did allow the Raiders to continue giving their running backs opportunities to prove they could do more than just run and separate themselves from the pack.The moment was seized by the likes of Ashton Jeanty and Mike Washington Jr., who have the makings of a solid one-two punch in the backfield. Even as Washington is another exciting rookie the Raiders have, he is also feeling the pressure of the moment.Its going to be an exciting moment, I believe, for everybody, said Washington. Its our first preseason game, first game we get to show the world what were capable of. Im justgoing to be excited.Now, all that remains is to wait and see what the new-look Raiders truly look like at game speed.

A healthy roster this year could find the Indians challenging for the NIC-10 championship.Hononegah head coach Brian Zimmerman would just as soon forget about last season and all the injuries this team endured.Its something that were going to put in the rearview mirror, and so far, so good, were healthy this season.One player they missed last year because of a shoulder injury was running back and linebacker Brody Sendele. He was able to wrestle last winter after football season. He won a state championship. Now hes back on the football field.I really missed football. I enjoy football a lot, hanging out with my buddies. Wrestling is really a one-person sport, all about yourself. I love football.He gets after it, said Zimmerman. Anytime we can get wrestlers in the football program, I love it.The Indians have also welcomed aboard a pair of transfers from Boylan, huge lineman Caleb Collins and quarterback Dominic Cacciatore.Zimmerman says Cacciatore has had a smooth transition. Hes done a really nice job of adapting to our offense, what we like to run. Hes got a good rapport with his teammates.Hononegah offensive lineman Richard Gambini has been impressed with Cacciatores dedication to grasping Hononegahs offense. His dad (John) was obviously the Boylan head coach. He (John) had him (Dominic) have all the flashcards out for our plays studying them all, and he knew them all before we even got to training camp. I think he looks great.Cacciatore should have one of the most reliable and productive receivers in the NIC-10 to throw to in 6-4 Caleb Parker-Lones. He showed flashes of what he can do last season.Last season Caleb did a great job of getting his first downs, said Zimmerman. Any time we need a first down, it seemed like the ball went to him.Ryan Fritsch was one of the top sprinters in the conference in track last spring. Hell play the slot receiver. Giovanni Zepeda and tight end Logan Wilson are also proven pass catchers.Sendele will play some running back along with Emerson Tuula.Up front the Indians return starting center Tim Caver, starting right tackle Richard Gambini and starting right guard Wyatt Kinney.Some of the defensive stalwarts will be Logan Wilson off the edge at end, Tristen Ginn at tackle, and Chase Timmerman at defensive end. Sendele and Tuula at linebacker, and Fritsch and Jacob Duval in the defensive secondary.I think the defense is pretty strong right now from what Ive seen in practice, said Sendele. Baltimore Ravens cornerback Nate Wiggins avoided a potentially serious injury after being carted off during Tuesdays practice. Early testing showed no ligament damage, giving the Ravens reason for optimism ahead of the 2026 NFL season.Wiggins reportedly suffered the injury after tangling feet with rookie receiver JaKobi Lane during a deep-route drill. This time, Cannon allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five frames. Despite that, the Knights only trailed by three when Cannons outing was over. Charlotte scored its three early runs on a single by Michael Turner in the first, a single by Ryan Galanie in the second, and a productive ground out by Turner in the fifth. In the sixth, the Knights trimmed the deficit on a single by Andy Weber to drive in Joey Wiemer, who singled and stole second to open the inning.The games biggest hit took place in the seventh. Turner led off the seventh with a single, and Junior Prez walked to put two on with no outs. Up to the plate stepped Tim Elko, who got a pitch to his liking that he did not miss. Elko blasted a three-run homer to put the Knights ahead, and they did not look back. That was the Knights only extra-base hit of the game, but it was enough. Unfortunately, when Umbergers outing was over, the Dash trailed by a score of 1-0, as Zeigler pitched four shutout innings.In the top of the sixth, Javier Mogolln launched a solo homer to tie the game at one. Mogolln, 20, got promoted from Kannapolis to Winston-Salem on July 28, and he has hit four homers in 12 games since the promotion.In the bottom of the sixth, the Grasshoppers retook the lead on an RBI single by Jared Jones. However, the Dash came back with a vengeance, scoring two in the seventh and five in the eighth to take firm control. In the seventh, Kaleb Freeman crushed a two-run homer to give the Dash a lead that they would not relinquish. Then, in the eighth, the five-run frame was a strong all-around effort, with Winston-Salem collecting four hits and four walks. With one out, Fernando Graterol walked, and Sebastian Romero singled. A two-base error by the right fielder allowed Graterol to score, and Romero advanced to third. From there, Ronald Cardozo drove in Romero with a sacrifice fly.Although the DSL White Sox had an early 2-0 lead, the rest of the game was not so easy. The DSL Diamondbacks Black (28-21) scored three in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth to pull away. Hector Hernndez drove in the last run of the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough.

The question of whether Tony Romo will continue to call NFL games for CBS has somewhat obscured the question of whether CBS will continue to broadcast NFL games.Like Fox, NBC, Prime Video, and YouTube, the CBS contract runs through 2029, once (as expected) the NFL exercises its prerogative to end the contracts four years early. Unlike the other networks, CBS has undergone a "change in control," which allows the NFL to reopen the current deal.The NFL already has embarked on active negotiations with CBS, with some reports suggesting the league may seek to bump the CBS annual fee from $2.1 billion to $3 billion effective immediately. More recent reports have pointed to a stall in the negotiations, fueled by legal issues arising from its parent company's effort to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery.At Tuesday's season-preview press event, CBS Sports president David Berson addressed the situation."Were in constant conversation; we have so much business with them on so many other levels, Berson told Drew Lerner of Awful Announcing. Theres nothing to report on this right now, but the relationship is outstanding. Were talking to them every day. I mentioned the viewership success weve had, I mentioned they covet reach so much; CBS is the number one network 17 of the last 18 years . . . so they really value what we provide and we also value what theyre providing. So conversations continue, but theres nothing at this stage to talk about.The NFL could, in theory, pull the plug on CBS and take its games back to the market. But who would assume the CBS Sunday-afternoon slate? The other networks have their existing windows. None of them presumably would want to add half of the full Sunday afternoon slate of games.And it would be important to keep the Sunday afternoon slate on broadcast TV. A pivot of a large swath of the most traditional "free" games to streaming would create more political pushback for the NFL.Of the broadcast networks, Fox already has its Sunday afternoon games.
