Ty Gibbs Wants NASCAR to Make One Major Change to the Next Gen Car
Technology has given NASCAR Cup Series drivers more information inside the cockpit than ever before. Ty Gibbs isnt convinced all of it has made the racing better. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver wants NASCAR to consider taking away the digital rearview camera used in the Next Gen car, arguing that the technology has made it considerably easier for drivers to control the cars behind them. And Gibbs didnt exactly tiptoe around his opinion.During an appearance on the Dale Jr. Download, Gibbs joked that removing the camera might expose just how dependent some Cup Series drivers have become on it.Honestly I think if you took the digital camera out of the car, it would be a mix of drivers that probably wouldnt even be in the Cup Series anymore, Gibbs said with a laugh. I swear sometimes, if there was no digital cameras in here, some of these guys definitely would not be in Cup.It was a joke with a serious point behind it.Ty Gibbs thinks removing the digital camera could improve racingUnlike a traditional rearview mirror, NASCARs digital camera gives drivers a broad look at whats happening behind their cars.Gibbs compared the setup to something he encountered in a far less glamorous vehicle. We have the same mirror as like, a bus, like a transit bus. I was in a transit bus in L.A. and I was like, Dude, I think thats the same mirror I run in my Cup car. That was a fun fact. That was surprising.Dale Earnhardt Jr. suggested going back to the type of mirrors drivers used during his Cup Series career. Gibbs was completely on board.I would 100% be for that, Gibbs said. His reasoning goes beyond nostalgia.Gibbs believes reducing the information available to drivers could make it more difficult to block competitors based entirely on what theyre seeing behind them.I think it would obviously wed want to have a car that races a little better in dirty air, but for the time being, I think if you took those out, I think it would make the racing a little better because you couldnt just sit there and look at your iPad and go up and screw somebody on their line. That gets to the heart of Gibbs argument.Removing technology from a modern Cup car sounds like a step backward. In this case, however, Gibbs believes forcing drivers to rely more heavily on their own awareness could make passing and defending position more difficult. And potentially make the racing better.NASCAR drivers once had considerably less help behind the wheelGibbs also has firsthand experience racing without all the information normally available to him.He recalled losing radio communication late in a road-course race several years ago and being forced to rely on himself and his mirror to understand what was happening around him.A couple years ago my radio broke with like 25 laps to go on a road course, and I just didnt have any communication the whole time and thank goodness it went green until the end after we pitted, Gibbs said. I just spotted for myself in the mirror. I could see everything from the mirror.NASCAR isnt about to strip every piece of modern technology from the Next Gen cockpit. But Gibbs comments raise an interesting question about how much information drivers should have at their disposal. The digital camera unquestionably helps drivers see whats happening around them. Gibbs contention is that it may help them too much, particularly when a driver can use that information to immediately react to a competitor attempting a pass. For a driver competing at NASCARs highest level, Gibbs seems perfectly willing to make his own job harder if it creates better racing in the process.

Wales great Jones set to join Ospreys board
Alun Wyn Jones retired in 2023 [Huw Evans Picture Agency]Former Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones is poised to return to the Ospreys as a director. The 40-year-old is set to be announced as a board member by the Swansea-based club next week.Jones made his Ospreys debut in 2005, a year after he broke through with Swansea RFC, and helped the club to three titles and an Anglo-Welsh Cup triumph. The former lock is to return at a turbulent time as the club fights for survival under Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) plans to cut to three professional men's sides.WRU-owned Cardiff and privately-backed Dragons are poised to get licences, which will effectively pit Ospreys against Llanelli-based Scarlets for a solitary spot in the west.WRU condemns abuse and doubles down on three-team planDavies calls for WRU board to step downThe Ospreys have criticised the WRU plans - stating that they believe a four-team model remains the way forward - and have had a summer of change. After spending last season in Bridgend, they will play at a revamped St Helen's in the 2026-27 campaign thanks to a joint redevelopment venture with Swansea Council.A first fixture at home is scheduled to be against Dragons in the United Rugby Championship (URC) on 24 October, swiftly followed by another derby against Cardiff.Ospreys have lost Wales captains Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan to Gloucester but head coach Mark Jones has had a busy recruitment drive.Wales back Tom Rogers has signed from Scarlets and three Australians have arrived in Liam Wright, Lawson Creighton and Lalakai Foketi, with another move lined up for ex-Wallabies wing Marika Koroibete.Ospreys played amid uncertainty last season when owners Y11 Sports and Media attempted to take over rivals Cardiff, only for the deal to collapse in April.Welsh rugby's ins, outs and re-signings for 2026-27

Jersey Bulls knocked out of FA Trophy on penalties
Sammy Henia-Kamau scored for the first time since re-joining Jersey Bulls in the summer [Lauren Queree]Jersey Bulls were knocked out of the FA Trophy on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Hayes and Yeading United. The London side progressed 4-1 on penalties to advance from the preliminary round in an entertaining tie.A young island side made an excellent start as Sammy Henia-Kamau calmly put the Bulls 1-0 up having been put through by debutant Luke Lister's precision pass in the eighth minute. Hayes and Yeading, who were hosting the game owing to ongoing building work at Springfield, almost equalised four minutes later when Amari Fashanu crashed an effort off the post. Impressive former Swansea City and Hull City youngster Henia-Kama spurned number of efforts to extend the lead as the first half went on.Tomas Goncalves saw a dipping effort just clear the hosts crossbar while Jack Lumsden and Lister had efforts saved as Bulls looked for a second in the final five minutes before the break. The hosts needed less than a minute of the second half to equalise as Dernell Wynter scored from six yards after a deflected cross fell into his path. Josh Edwards and Ben Schroll had good chances to give Hayes the lead soon after as the islanders defended desperately. But with 13 minutes left Bulls went ahead against the run of play as Casey Nixon played a one-two with substitute Darryl Mvalo before seeing his deflected strike sneak in.But less than two minutes later it was 2-2 - the impressive Gianni Critchlow got to the byline and floated a ball into the back post for the unmarked Brendan Matthew to head in. Seanie McColgan somehow headed wide when free for Jersey with seven minutes left before Jarma Mohamed was sent off for a second booking less than a minute later. The game went to penalties but Henia-Kamau and Jack Lumsden missed Bulls' first two kicks as the hosts went 2-0 up. The island side scored their third kick but the hosts were faultless as Matthew made no mistake with their fourth effort to win the tie. Related internet links Jersey Bulls

Preston had 'a mountain to climb' - Heckingbottom
Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire following his side's 2-1 defeat by Bolton:"I said at half-time to the players I thought we could win the game. We were poor first-half in terms of the goals that we gave away," he said."Whether it was the first game or not but they were certainly not the goals that we want to give away."We gave ourselves a real mountain to climb and it was as simple as their enthusiasm, their energy about being in this league and the crowd - it seemed to catch us cold."One or two [players] won't play like that again. We need to be better but there were also some good moments and I'm pleased with some of the new boys."Latest Preston North End news, analysis and fan views

NASCAR Cup Series Pit Stall Assignments for Richmond: Where Every Driver Will Pit
Ryan Blaney already earned the best starting position for Saturday nights NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. Now the Team Penske driver will have a prime piece of real estate on pit road, too.Blaney, who won the pole in the No. 12 Ford, will occupy pit stall No. 1 for the Cook Out 400. His stall sits at the Turn 1 end of pit road, giving the pole-sitter a clear opening ahead of him when leaving his pit box.The rest of the field will be spread across Richmonds notoriously busy pit road, with a few strategically placed vacant stalls potentially giving certain teams some additional room to work with Saturday night. Two teams also entered the weekend without the ability to choose their pit stalls. Christopher Bells No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team and Cody Wares No. 51 Rick Ware Racing team each failed pre-race inspection twice. Their respective car chiefs were ejected, and both teams lost pit selection for the weekend. Here is where every Cup Series driver will pit at Richmond.NASCAR Cup Series pit stall assignments at RichmondImage Courtesy of nascar.comRyan Blaney, No. 12 Team Penske FordBrad Keselowski, No. 6 RFK Racing FordShane van Gisbergen, No. 97 Trackhouse Racing ChevroletErik Jones, No. 43 Legacy Motor Club ToyotaBubba Wallace, No. 23 23XI Racing ToyotaRoss Chastain, No. 1 Trackhouse Racing ChevroletCole Custer, No. 41 Haas Factory Team ChevroletConnor Zilisch, No. 88 Trackhouse Racing ChevroletVacantChase Briscoe, No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing ToyotaCarson Hocevar, No. 77 Spire Motorsports ChevroletTy Dillon, No. 10 Kaulig Racing ChevroletAustin Cindric, No. 2 Team Penske FordTyler Reddick, No. 45 23XI Racing ToyotaDaniel Suarez, No. 7 Spire Motorsports ChevroletTy Gibbs, No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing ToyotaRicky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 HYAK Motorsports ChevroletDenny Hamlin, No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing ToyotaVacantJosh Berry, No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing FordTodd Gilliland, No. 34 Front Row Motorsports FordAlex Bowman, No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports ChevroletZane Smith, No. 38 Front Row Motorsports FordAustin Hill, No. 33 Richard Childress Racing ChevroletAJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Kaulig Racing ChevroletWilliam Byron, No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports ChevroletRiley Herbst, No. 35 23XI Racing ToyotaKyle Larson, No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports ChevroletJosh Bilicki, No. 66 Garage 66 FordChristopher Bell, No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing ToyotaCody Ware, No. 51 Rick Ware Racing ChevroletChris Buescher, No. 17 RFK Racing FordMichael McDowell, No. 71 Spire Motorsports ChevroletNoah Gragson, No. 4 Front Row Motorsports FordJohn Hunter Nemechek, No. 42 Legacy Motor Club ToyotaRyan Preece, No. 60 RFK Racing FordAustin Dillon, No. 3 Richard Childress Racing ChevroletNo assigned Cup carJoey Logano, No. 22 Team Penske FordChase Elliott, No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet
