SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPacers guard talks about the Warriors passing on him during 2020 NBA DraftCurrent Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton recently made a podcast appearance, opening up about the early days of his career and what could have been. During that discussion, Haliburton spoke about some of his potential landing spots on draft day and his pre-draft workouts.Although Haliburton eventually wound up with the Sacramento Kings as the No. 12 overall selection, he recalled having his best workout with the Warriors, who owned the No. 2 overall pick. "That was the best workout of my life, the best workout of my life," Haliburton said."I swear I didn't miss and then Steve [Kerr] stepped into my workout and was like 'He needs to do conditioning shooting; we need to see it full court' and then I didn't miss again, and I was like 'They're drafting me at two' and then in the interview they were like 'We know you fit us perfect. We know you fit us perfect, but we don't know if we could draft you at two.'"Ultimately, the Warriors went on to select Memphis center James Wiseman. Wiseman lasted just 60 games with Golden State and has yet to live up to the hype of a No. 2 overall pick. At the moment, he's made just five appearances in his last two NBA seasons and is currently a free agent. That said, Wiseman has experienced his fair share of injury issues, tearing his meniscus with the Warriors and his Achilles later on in his career. However, given how their careers have panned out, Golden State would have been much better off with Haliburton, Devin Vassell or even LaMelo Ball. For more NBA content, check out the BasketBaltes podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@BasketBaltes/videoshttps://www.instagram.com/basketbaltes/This article originally appeared on Warriors Wire: Pacers guard talks about the Warriors passing on him during 2020 NBA Draft0 Commentaires 0 Parts 185 Vue 0 Aperçu -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMClearly, theres something wrong: Sunil Gavaskar questions Indias fitness methods amid injury crisisFormer India captain Sunil Gavaskar has questioned India's approach to player fitness after a series of injuries left several key players on the sidelines, while defending the physios at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are among the Indian players currently unavailable due to injuries. The growing list has triggered questions over injury management, with scrutiny directed towards head coach Gautam Gambhir, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and the CoE.However, Gavaskar believes it is unfair to place the responsibility on the physios at the Bengaluru facility. The 1983 World Cup winner pointed out that hamstring injuries have been particularly common among Indian players and argued that their training methods need closer examination.VVS Laxman, the Head of Cricket, recently explained the functioning of the CoE alongside BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and defended the facility's physios, stressing that the centre is not simply a "rehab centre". Gavaskar has now echoed that view."While Bumrah has a knee injury, it is seen that most Indian players suffer from hamstring injuries. Clearly, theres something wrong with their training, and thats why these recurring hamstring injuries. These injuries happen when they are playing for India, but unfortunately, the blame is put on the physios at the BCCI centre of excellence," wrote Gavaskar in his column for Mid-Day.Gavaskar also questioned the increasingly common restrictions placed on bowlers during net sessions under the idea of managing their biomechanics and workloads."The so-called biomechanics, where a bowler can bowl only so many deliveries in the practice nets, is a questionable practice. Even in the IPL, it is learnt that some of the overseas physios dont allow the bowlers to bowl more than 20 balls in the nets. If in the match you will be bowling 24 balls, that is, if you dont bowl no-balls and wides, then how is bowling a lesser number in the nets going to help?" he added. The former India captain also challenged the emphasis placed on gym-based fitness, suggesting that players should focus more on being prepared for the demands of actual matches.Gavaskar believes the recurring injuries require a detailed assessment rather than simply attributing them to the medical staff at the CoE."Its an issue that needs a good, hard look at why these injuries are happening again and again. It is more important to be match fit than gym fit. But then, maybe I am from a generation that had different ideas on fitness," wrote Gavaskar.India's injury concerns have also been highlighted by captain Shubman Gill. Following the ODI series defeat against England, Gill expressed frustration at the constant changes to the playing XI because of injuries.Gill pointed towards the demands of the upcoming World Cup, where India could have to play nine to 10 matches, and questioned how players would manage that workload if they are currently struggling to remain available for even two or three games. With several players sidelined and recurring hamstring issues becoming a concern, the debate over India's fitness methods and injury management is likely to continue. Gavaskar's comments shift some of the focus away from the CoE physios and towards the broader approach to player training and match readiness.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 171 Vue 0 Aperçu -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMO'Connor targets biggest titles after European goldKate OConnor capped a memorable summer on Saturday when she added European gold to her Commonwealth Games triumph [Getty Images]Kate O'Connor celebrated winning heptathlon gold for Ireland at the European Championships in Birmingham with a "double burger".That choice seemed fitting: one burger for each major championship she has won in the past three weeks following on from her success for Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games."It was beautiful, it was stunning, I ate every single bite of it. And yeah, it was bliss," said O'Connor. Some of those words could have been used to describe the performances this summer which have lifted the 25-year-old to legendary status in Irish athletics. But the Newry-born athlete's thoughts are already turning to the future, including how to better the World Championship silver medal she won behind American Anna Hall into something greater at next year's event in Beijing before the 2028 Olympics."I've got two titles to my name now, and the next goal is to get a world title and then an Olympic title. That is ultimately the aim," she added."When you put in so much work in behind the scenes, why not tell people what you're aiming for and make everybody else excited?"When you know you're capable, I think that there's no harm in saying what you're aiming for."But it's going to take those points here and there and everywhere. Those centimetres across all the events."Ireland's O'Connor secures heptathlon European goldWhile O'Connor's ascension over the past two years has been one of the standout stories in Irish athletics, she insists she must "come on leaps and bounds" to take the most coveted titles in her discipline."People are going to be nipping at my toes and I think that Anna is probably still the person that is just sitting out there a little bit in front," she said."It's how can I get closer to her to be putting her under pressure?"It would be class if we were all standing on the line of the hurdles at the Olympics and nobody knew what was going to happen and it was a fight from start to finish."Which I think it will be and I think it's really exciting that I've put myself in the mix, and I'm speaking like this and thinking these sort of things and thinking that I'm 100% going to be in the mix for a world title or an Olympic title."O'Connor finished with 6,751 points to clinch the European crown [Getty Images]OConnor not perfect in Euro winWhile winning the Commonwealth title in Glasgow was comfortable, O'Connor had to battle her way to European gold, setting a personal best score of 6,751 points. That tally would have claimed bronze at the last Olympics in Paris, but was only enough to win by 38 points in Birmingham on Saturday. For O'Connor, it was a different feeling being the hunted, not the hunter."It was probably the most nerve-wracking competition of my whole life. My nervous system is completely fried from it. I didn't give myself a second to breathe," she added."There were moments where I gave myself every chance and every opportunity to win the gold medal, and there were moments where I basically buried myself into the floor with some of the performances, which were gut-wrenching at the time."I by far did not have a perfect competition but I still managed to come out on top and I think that this one is even more sweeter than the World Championships because of the fight that I had to put in, and nobody knew whether I had that gold medal until I crossed the line."OConnor dedicates gold medal to grandmotherO'Connor will take a couple of weeks now to "chill" and "not speak about athletics" before reflecting and evaluating 2026 with dad and coach Michael, as they plan ahead for what will hopefully be an exciting couple of years. However, in amongst all the excitement of her big wins this summer was the family sadness of the passing of her grandmother Madeleine to who she dedicated the European gold medal."My granny was one of my biggest supporters and, like, every medal that I would win, she was completely over the moon every single time," explained O'Connor."She would always make jokes that she was no longer called Madeleine. She was called Kate O'Connor's granny."She loved to tell literally everybody and anybody that she met. It was really tough after world indoors, whenever she got sick and my dad was split between looking after her and training me."It was just a really tough time for the whole family but my dad has been completely incredible."She was already the proudest person in the world and I think that she was watching over me over those last couple of days. "That's why I wanted to dedicate it to her because she's been such a huge part of my life, a huge part of my dad's life and an inspiration to all of my family."0 Commentaires 0 Parts 170 Vue 0 Aperçu -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLA Rams 13th overall pick proves his worth against the ChiefsJul 27, 2026; Westchester, CA, USA; Los Angeles Rams quarterback Ty Simpson (15) throws the ball during training camp at Loyola Marymount University. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesWill the new quarterback of the Super Bowl contender team, the Los Angeles Rams, Ty Simpson, be able to silence those who were questioning his ability against the Kansas City Chiefs? Everyone was wondering whether a rookie could handle the pressure, emotions, and nerves of a big NFL game and run the offense with full confidence. On Saturday, when Simpson took charge of the game, he showed the same calm and composure that he had shown during the training camp. Although in the first part of the game the Los Angeles team had them retreat three times, Simpson's second attempt was really excellent. He completed all four of his passes accurately for 41 yards.Aug 15, 2026; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Los Angeles Rams quarterback Ty Simpson (15) on field against the Kansas City Chiefs prior to a pre season at Arrowhead Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn ImagesTalking about his first NFL game, Simpson said that he felt much more comfortable playing this game.I definitely felt more comfortable than I ever had coming into a game, but I also didn't know what to expect, said Simpson.Just before halftime, Simpson handled the time very smartly when it was running out. He passed to tight end Max Klare and wide receiver Xavier Smith and took the Rams up to midfield. In the fourth quarter of the game, Smith had an amazing 40-yard punt return, which cleared the way for Simpson's first touchdown pass.Simpson gave running back Dean Connors a 9-yard screen pass, which became his first preseason touchdown. For the second touchdown, Simpson led a long 87-yard drive, in which he threw an impressive 22-yard pass to tight end Mark Redman. Simpson finished the game with 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards. Threw two touchdowns to Connors. His passer rating was 125.0, which is considered really awesome.None of his passes were intercepted. Rams won this game 20-12.Head coach Sean McVay said Simpson had 'great command' over the game all day."I thought Ty had great command all day,"McVay said. "He was able to get through good progressions, got a lot of different guys involved."A very well-developed plan was made for Ty Simpson. First, he was put into easy plays, and then gradually his responsibilities were increased, like full progression reads and 5-to-7-step drops (QBs' special techniques). This amazing start showed everyone why the Rams drafted him at 13th overall. He completely shut down critics who were doubting him, proving himself as the true heir to Matthew Stafford.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 168 Vue 0 Aperçu
