3 Best Team Fits for QB Kyler Murray in NFL Free Agency
A year ago, there was so much optimism about Kyler Murray. He was healthy again. He was coming off a strong season. The Arizona Cardinals seemed convinced he was on the verge of becoming the dangerous, explosive quarterback that he once was. But Murray's 2025 season was a disaster. He played in only five games thanks to a foot injury, and when he did play, he didnt play well. And now his time in Arizona is done. The Cards told him they will release him next Wednesday, a source confirmed, assuming they cant find a trading partner before then. [2026 NFL Free Agency: The Top 100 Players Available and Potential Fits] And once that divorce is official, itll leave the 28-year-old Murray at a crossroads, with most of the NFL wondering if he has anything left. "Hes not the same player anymore, but probably has more talent than most of the other [free agents]," an NFC scout told me. "Health is a huge wild card. But if hes healthy, hes worth a shot for someone." So who would want to give him a shot to revive his fading career? Heres a look at three of his best possible destinations, either in free agency or in a trade. 3. Pittsburgh Steelers If Aaron Rodgers decides to return to Pittsburgh, then this option is off the table. In that case, the New York Jets might be the third team on this list. For now, though, at least one NFL source told me the Jets are not as high on Murray as many think they are. And Murray surely knows that the Jets are a place where quarterbacks go to die. The Steelers should really interest Murray because they were talented enough to win 10 games and their division last season. They are also now coached by Mike McCarthy, who remains one of the league's premier offensive minds. He also runs a system that has been very friendly to mobile quarterbacks, which should help Murray, even if hes not as mobile as he once was. Again, Murray wouldnt be the Steelers top choice. But if Rodgers retires, or goes elsewhere, he should be high on their alternate list. Hes a little bit of a reclamation project, like Rodgers was, but hes young enough to have more of an upside. The Steelers also dont have a young, franchise quarterback-in-waiting, so Murray would almost certainly have a full season, and maybe more, to start. 2. Miami Dolphins This might be Murrays quickest path to a starting job, especially with the Dolphins seemingly ready to absorb the enormous cap hit and move on from Tua Tagovailoa. It does seem like Malik Willis is the preferred quarterback for new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and new coach Jeff Hafley both of whom knew Willis in Green Bay. But Willis should have better options than Miami, which could open that door for Murray. Its not a good door, really. The Dolphins feel like theyre rebuilding and have been a dysfunctional franchise. But even without wide receiver Tyreek Hill, they do have some speedy weapons that new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik can work with if he has the right quarterback. Quinn Ewers doesnt seem like the right quarterback there. Murray isnt their long-term answer, either, but he could be a decent short-term fit. 1. Minnesota Vikings If theres interest here and it sure sounds like there will be Murray would be crazy to pass up this opportunity, even if its not a guaranteed path to a starting job. If anyone can resurrect his career and help him find his old self, its Kevin OConnell, one of the best quarterback whisperers in the league. Just ask Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. Multiple NFL sources said the Vikings will definitely be in the market for a veteran quarterback to either push or replace J.J. McCarthy, in what is a critical year for the 2024 first-round pick. They tried to do that last year after they let Darnold go, but they couldnt keep Jones and decided against signing Aaron Rodgers. Theyre not going to miss out on some McCarthy insurance this time around. If Murray is healthy, hes better than McCarthy, though its possible the Vikings will give McCarthy as much of a shot at the job as he needs. But Murray has to see the benefits of resetting himself, even if theres a chance he spends most of the season on the bench. One year in Minnesota and hell surely have a new outlook around the rest of the league.

Luke Donald to return as Ryder Cup captain for Europe for 2027 competition
European players chanted, Two more years! when they won the Ryder Cup in New York, and Luke Donald listened. He was named captain on Wednesday for the 2027 matches in Ireland, making him the first captain in 30 years to lead in three straight Ryder Cups.At stake for Donald is a chance to become the first Ryder Cup captain with three straight victories. The last two Ryder Cups have meant a lot to me and my family," Donald said. "I didnt imagine this third time would come. Celebrating on that Sunday night in New York after a pressure-packed week in a tough environment, I thought maybe my job was done. But maybe there is a little more story to tell.Donald, a former world No. 1 from England, was never meant to be captain in the first place. He seemingly lost out when Europe chose Henrik Stenson to be captain for the 2023 matches outside Rome. But then Stenson gave up the job when he joined Saudi-backed LIV Golf, and Donald stepped in and hasn't missed a beat.Donald led Europe to a resounding victory in 2023, and then last September at Bethpage Black led his team to a seven-point lead going into Sunday singles. It held on to win while coping with a hostile New York crowd. That prompted U.S. captain Keegan Bradley to say, I think hes the best European Ryder Cup captain of all time, Luke Donald."The 2027 matches the 100th anniversary of the Ryder Cup will be at Adare Manor in Ireland. Europe has not lost on home soil since 1993.Now it's up to the Americans to decide who will go up against Donald. Tiger Woods again is the top choice to lead Team USA. Woods turned down the job last time, leading to Bradley being appointed just 14 months before the matches.Woods has said he hasn't decided whether he has the time to do the job justice. He currently is leading an overhaul of the PGA Tour model. The Associated Press reported last week the PGA of America has encouraged Woods to decide within the month.Bernhard Gallacher from 1991 through 1995 was the last captain to serve three straight times, winning his last one at Oak Hill. Donald was seen as an obvious choice for 2027, part of that a product of LIV Golf because of other potential captains Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell who are with LIV. Justin Rose had said at the start of the year he was more interested in playing for the 2027 team. Francesco Molinari was viewed as another option.History is obviously important to me. As a team, as Ryder Cup Europe, we all play for history," the 48-year-old Donald said. "We talk about it a lot, about the guys who paved the way for us and the responsibility we have to inspire next generations. But I dont think I have ever thought about history through a personal lens. I just try to enjoy the journey and the day-to-day work to create an environment that gives the players the opportunity for success. That is what I focus on.Walter Hagen was a winning captain four times for the Americans, while Ben Hogan led the U.S. team to three victories, though neither was in successive matches and those occurred in an era of U.S. dominance before Europe was part of the Ryder Cup.Tony Jacklin was European captain three times, and his players left with the gold trophy all three times. The last one in 1989 was a tie, and Europe retained the Ryder Cup as the defending champion. At stake for Donald is the first to win outright three straight times.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf

As Cadillac makes its F1 debut, history shows new teams can win big or fail
Cadillac might just be the best-prepared new team in Formula 1 history. The General Motors-backed team racked up the virtual miles in detailed race simulations last year and was reliable in preseason testing with its new car, named for Mario Andretti, even if it's likely to be fighting with struggling Aston Martin not to be last. The rubber hits the road for real as the 11th team at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. From a one-season wonder to a notorious disgrace, here is a look at some other debut seasons from F1 history for Cadillac to aspire to, or avoid:Ferrari (1950)Everyone starts somewhere. In the first world championship season, Ferrari was an emerging manufacturer in the shadow of Italian giants Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Alberto Ascari's second-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix made a statement that Ferrari was serious. Jos Froiln Gonzlez brought Ferrari its first win a year later and Ascari became the team's first champion in 1952. Ferrari is the only team to participate in every F1 season.Jordan (1991)When F1 had so many teams that pre-qualifying was needed to trim the field, you needed something special to stand out. Team boss Eddie Jordan, who died last year at the age of 76, was a cult figure in F1 for his strong opinions and loud shirts, and handed future seven-time champion Michael Schumacher a debut after his regular driver was arrested. Schumacher qualified seventh, putting himself and Jordan on the map. The popular Irish team stayed on the grid, winning four races, until a 2005 sale. Andrea Moda (1992)F1 had slow teams like Life, which never got past pre-qualifying. It had short-lived teams like Mastercard Lola, which lasted one qualifying session. Andrea Moda still stands out. Its car, a years-old design, broke down regularly once before leaving the pit lane and was hopelessly slow. The team missed a race because its engines didn't arrive and another when its trucks were stuck in traffic, was accused by one driver of knowingly fitting damaged steering to his car and was eventually excluded from F1 mid-season.Brawn (2009)F1's ultimate Cinderella story began when Honda wanted to shut down its team to save money as the global economy plummeted. Team principal Ross Brawn persuaded Honda to accept a management buyout for one pound. In a plain white car with almost no sponsors but with a game-changing double diffuser innovation that left other teams scrambling to copy it, Jenson Button won Brawn's first race in Australia. He held off Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel to take the championship in the team's first and only season. Brawn then sold his team to Mercedes and it has won eight more constructors' titles since.Haas (2016)American teams have a patchy history in F1. The last to win a race was Penske in 1976, while USF1 never even made the grid before running out of cash in 2010. That made it all the more surprising when the next U.S. entry, Haas, didn't just survive in F1, it celebrated sixth- and fifth-place finishes in its first two races with Romain Grosjean at the wheel. While Cadillac is building a new headquarters in Indiana, Haas bases much of its key operations in Europe, with close ties to Ferrari and a new partnership with Toyota.___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing
