SPORTS.YAHOO.COMQuick Reaction: Indiana mens basketball beats Minnesota 77-47Mar 4, 2026; Bloomington, Indiana, USA; Indiana Hoosiers forward Sam Alexis (4) dunks the ball against the Minnesota Golden Gophers during the first half at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Mandatory Credit: Robert Goddin-Imagn Images | Robert Goddin-Imagn ImagesIndiana mens basketball got back in the win column in convincing fashion tonight, dominating Minnesota 77-47 for the Hoosiers first win since early February. It was a revenge win, a rejuvenating win, and potentially a win that revived Indianas NCAA Tournament hopes with just one regular season game to play. The Hoosiers came out looking like a desperate team tonight, getting out to a 20-6 lead in the early minutes, led by Sam Alexis, who had nine of those first 20 points. He finished with a season-high 23 points, to go along with nine rebounds and two blocks. He led or tied for the team high in all three categories. Things got tense in Assembly Hall when the Golden Gophers went on a run of their own, bringing it within one possession at 19-22 with 8:45 left in the half. Unlike the Northwestern game, though, Indiana was able to stop the bleeding and answer with more points on the offensive end. After Cade Tysons free-throw cut it to a three-point game, Darian DeVries went right back to Alexis, who made another layup to give Indiana some breathing room. The Hoosiers got another stop and DeVries got Alexis a look again, putting the Hoosiers up by seven. 17 of Alexis 23 points came in the first half, as Indiana kept taking the easy points in the paint against zone and man looks from Minnesota. The Hoosiers really shined on the defensive end to close out the half though, allowing just nine points in the final nine minutes after allowing Minnesotas first and only run. That defensive effort set the tone for the second half, when Indiana held Minnesota to just 19 points. Crucially, the Hoosiers also out-rebounded the Gophers 21-9 over the final 20 minutes. Overall, Indiana got the win it needed tonight, by a margin big enough to inspire confidence in the remaining games, all of which the Hoosiers likely need to win to keep an NCAA Tournament dream alive.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 98 Views 0 previzualizare

WWW.KSAT.COMFight at Coastal Carolina, South Alabama women's Sun Belt game injures ref, results in 8 ejectionsA brawl between South Alabama and Coastal Carolina in the women's Sun Belt Tournament on Wednesday left eight players ejected and knocked a referee to the floor where she required medical attention. One player, Coastal Carolinas Tracey Hueston, was suspended for the rest of the 2026 postseason. There were less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter when South Alabamas Cordasia Harris and Hueston began fighting under the basket. Harris appeared to bump Hueston slightly from behind before Hueston turned around and began pushing and swinging at Harris, who pushed back. Two referees, multiple teammates and staff members quickly worked to separate the women and referee Marla Gearhar was knocked to the floor in the melee. Gearhar appeared to be hit in the head or neck area by Hueston as the referee was attempting to push her away from Harris.Gearhar remained on the floor on her back while order was restored and multiple staff members and a medical professional ran onto the court to attend to her. A sheriffs deputy also came onto the court after the fight ended.Gearhar was evaluated by medical personnel at the arena and was released, the conference announced. Hueston and Harris were both given technical fouls and ejected, along with six other players who participated in the fight.Harris, along with teammates Amyah Sutton and Daniela Gonzalez, were subsequently suspended for one game. While South Alabama Athletics Director Joel Erdmann did not condone Jaguars players' involvement in the altercation, he quibbled with aspects of officials' rulings. The incident that took place in Wednesday's game is extremely unfortunate and unacceptable, Erdmann said. However, after an extensive internal review, I do not believe the actions of all three of our student-athletes rose to the level of being classified as fighting as defined by the NCAA rule book. "This judgment has negatively impacted the tournament experience of our suspended student-athletes and stripped them of limited opportunities to compete in the postseason, Erdmann added.South Alabama won the game 80-70 and is slated to play Texas State on Thursday.___Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
