Did you expect Kentucky Basketball to coast against the Missouri Tigers? Up 16 with 14:33 remaining, Missouri somehow battled all the way back to take the lead with just over two minutes remaining.Thankfully, Kentuckys defense clamped down, and its offense did just enough down the stretch to hold on for a 78-72 win.Everybody exhale. And get ready for a Quarterfinals matchup against Florida on Friday afternoon.First HalfKentuckys intensity was evident early on, getting Missouris leading shot-blocker, Shawn Phillips Jr., to pick up two fouls in the first 2:58. The Wildcats took advantage by leading 9-7 through the first 5:28.The Cats unleashed a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead, which Missouri answered with a 5-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 14-12. They would eventually draw two fouls on Denzel Aberdeen, sending him to the bench. But the Cats were able to weather the storm and stay in front, taking a 28-20 lead. They would extend it with a Kam Williams 3-pointer and Otgea Oweh jumper off a steal by Aberdeen. Big Blue Nation was on its feet, and Bridgestone Arena was rocking. The Cats led 35-24 at the under-four media timeout and 2:50 to play in the first half.Despite shooting just 2-11 from three-point range in the first half, Kentucky still managed to build a lead as many as 12 points. The Cats got up as many as 16 with 14:33 remaining, but a 7-0 Missouri run, going 5-6 from the floor, made it 53-44 with 12:57 remaining.Otega Oweh, though, answered with a three from the corner, his second of the half. But Missouri then started to cut into the deficit, making shots and getting easy looks at the rim. A 6-0 run made it 58-53 with 10:28 remaining. The lead got down to three at 60-57 with just over eight minutes to play, which would hold at the under-eight media timeout.Collin Chandler hit a huge three-pointer to put Kentucky back up 63-57, followed by an Oweh jumper to make it 65-58. They trailed just 69-68 with 2:51 remaining. After the Tigers took a 70-69 lead, Aberdeen made two free throws to reclaim the lead for the Cats at 71-70. Here are the best reactions from Big Blue Nation during Thursdays game.I wish I could bottle up the energy in Bridgestone Arena when Kentucky goes on a run. It's the good stuff. Tyler Thompson (@MrsTylerKSR) March 12, 2026Mark Pope please keep playing Andrija Jelavic. Missouri better pray Otega Oweh doesnt start picking up some buckets. Casey (@BleedBlueCasey) March 12, 2026Not sure we've seen that before Dennis Gates tried delaying the game for a potential challenge by having two of his players stop to tie their shoes. It did not work. Jack Pilgrim (@JackPilgrimKSR) March 12, 2026This team has just played with a completely different attitude today. Plenty of urgency. Wyatt Huff (@Wildcat_wave) March 12, 2026Mo Dioubate has been BALLIN man. Daniel Hager (@DanielHagerOn3) March 12, 2026Kentucky shooting 18% from three and leading by nine at the half is the perfect way to win this game. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa withdraws from The Players Championship after one hole
Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa took one practice swing and knew his week was over right after it started. He withdrew Thursday from The Players Championship after one hole with pain in his lower back.Morikawa, the No. 4 player in the world, took a practice swing on the par-5 11th hole and reached for his lower back. He tried to stretch, consulted his trainer and minutes later took a cart ride from an official to the clubhouse.I felt fine in warm-up. Nothings been any signs of back problems, Morikawa told a PGA Tour official. Teed it up on 11, and took one practice swing, and I just knew it was gone. I just had the feeling before when its happened. And I just, I cant swing through it. Trust me, I would play if I could. Its just the worst thing in the world.Morikawa won at Pebble Beach earlier this year, ending a 28-month drought. He was looked upon as among golf's best performers early in the season, following that Pebble Beach win with a tie for seventh at Riviera and a tie for fifth last week at Bay Hill.Morikawa, who spent the offseason primarily working on getting his body stronger, said he has had similar back issues, just not recently. It gave him an idea what was coming. Before I even took my practice swing, its like a weird, like deja vu thing, he said. I took the practice swing and immediately knew. I just couldnt get through impact. He said his back felt tender but he could still move around, as long as he wasn't doing any heavy lifting or swing a golf club.I kind of know the protocols of what to do and kind of dance around it, he said. But its going to take a little bit of time.He was the second player to withdraw from The Players. Ryan Fox withdrew with an illness before his afternoon tee time. Morikawa was not replaced because he had already started the tournament.___This story corrects that Morikawa had gone 28 months without a win until Pebble Beach.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf
