Aston Villa fans beaten by French police with batons before Europa League clash
Disturbing footage emerged on Thursday evening showing French police wielding batons against Aston Villa supporters outside Lille's Stade Pierre-Mauroy ahead of the Europa League last-16 encounter.Video circulating widely on social media captured local authorities striking out at the crowd of travelling fans who had journeyed to northern France for the continental fixture. The violent scenes unfolded as supporters attempted to enter the stadium, with the confrontation quickly escalating into chaos.Amidst the disorder, one Villa fan could be heard shouting "No" whilst another warned "You'll get nicked" in an apparent attempt to prevent the situation deteriorating further.Police and stewards were subsequently filmed hauling a metal gate shut, preventing a substantial group from accessing that entrance despite many holding valid tickets.Supporters who had already cleared initial security checks found themselves trapped behind barriers, prompting angry shouts of "let them in" and "you're an absolute disgrace."At least one individual was knocked to the ground during the melee, whilst a fan in a wheelchair was also visible in the distressing footage. The account which posted the video alleged that some supporters had been tasered during the confrontation.Fans being tasered and refused entry #AVFC pic.twitter.com/NXxtxQR9WD Aston Villa Updates (@avfcbreaking) March 12, 2026 One fan later wrote online: "Two old boys got whacked with truncheons simply for being in a queue."Former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has demanded an investigation into how English supporters are treated during UEFA competitions, describing the incidents as deeply troubling.Speaking on talkSPORT, the club legend highlighted a stark double standard in how visiting fans are handled across Europe."What annoys me is that we get a bad name, English fans, when they go abroad," Agbonlahor said. "But I'm sure the Villa fans just want to get into the game. But the way they treat you, and it's not just Villa, a lot of other fan bases can say the same. They treat you terribly."He expressed particular concern for younger supporters, noting: "Kids would have been there. Going through that experience is not nice."Despite the troubling scenes outside the ground, the away end eventually filled with Villa supporters who witnessed their side secure a crucial advantage in the tie.Ollie Watkins found the net on the hour mark with an unusual headed finish, giving the Midlands club a 1-0 victory to take back to Birmingham. The slender lead provides Villa with a platform to defend when they host Lille at Villa Park on Thursday, March 19th.Victory in the second leg would see Unai Emery's men progress to the Europa League quarter-finals, offering some consolation during a difficult run of Premier League form. Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter

Trey Hendrickson vs. Maxx Crosby Odds: Who Will Have More Sacks?
You've heard the story about Maxx Crosby, Trey Hendrickson and the Ravens, right? In short: The Ravens recently traded two first-round picks to the Raiders in exchange for Crosby. However, the Ravens then failed Crosby on his physical and the trade was no more. Then, a day later, Baltimore signed Hendrickson to a four-year deal. Hmmm. This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. If you sign up or place a wager, FOX Sports may be compensated. Read more about Sports Betting on FOX Sports. Conspiracy theories aside, Hendrickson is a Raven and Crosby is not, and now the two are (kinda) forever linked. So, who will have a bigger 2026-27 season? DraftKings Sportsbook has a market for that (as of March 13). Most regular-season sacks head-to-head Trey Hendrickson: -140 (bet $10 to win $17.14 total)Maxx Crosby: +110 (bet $10 to win $21 total) Crosby is more of a household name, but Hendrickson has been just as productive in recent years. After tallying just 6.5 sacks in his first three seasons with New Orleans, Hendrickson, 31, exploded in Year 4, racking up 13.5. He signed with Cincinnati ahead of Year 5, and has taken off since then. In five seasons with the Bengals, Hendrickson has 61 sacks in 70 starts, including a league-leading 17.5 in 2024. He's made four Pro Bowls with Cincy, and was first-team All-Pro in 2024. That same year, Hendrickson also finished second to Patrick Surtain II in Defensive Player of the Year voting. As for Crosby, he's made the last five Pro Bowls and has twice been named second-team All-Pro. He has 69.5 sacks in 104 career starts, including a career-high 14.5 in 2023. Last season, Crosby, 28, had 10 sacks in 15 starts. Hendrickson had four in seven starts. One thing is for certain: The Ravens certainly need help getting to the quarterback. Last season, Baltimore finished with 30 total sacks, the third-fewest in the league. Only the New York Jets (26) and San Francisco 49ers (20) had fewer.
