The Texas A&M defensive tackle checks in at No. 27 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown. A three-star recruit out of Texas, Onyedim started his college career at Iowa State. During his four seasons in Ames, Onyedim recorded 12 tackles for loss and three sacks. During his lone season at Texas A&M, Onyedim recorded career highs in tackles (48), tackles for loss (8.5) and sacks (2.5). In the last five games, Onyedim recorded six tackles for loss, two sacks, seven pressures, and 10 run stops. With his explosiveness, length, and power, Onyedim can overwhelm interior offensive linemen. He has powerful hands that jolt offensive linemen. He consistently collapses the integrity of the pocket. During his final three college seasons, he recorded 60 pressures. "Onyedim is a very dynamic and versatile defensive lineman who shows exceptional hip flexibility," Shane Coughlin, the Director of College Scouting for the Shrine Bowl, said."He wins early in reps purely on his initial adjustments and initiation angles, where he can catch guards leaning and reacting to his first step before changing directions, leaving them off balance and igniting a second movement into the pocket. There's a lot of explosiveness in his upper and lower half to match."Onyedim has good initial quickness off the snap to disrupt the action in the backfield. He has the short-area quickness to make plays up and down the line of scrimmage. He uses his length to shed blocks and hes strong at the point of attack. He plays with active hands and has a knack for working off blocks to shut down running lanes. This past season he recorded a career-high 27 run stops. "In the run game its more of the same," Coughlin said. "Violent punches with stoutness to hold vertical positioning and then the quickness to disconnect and find ball carriers."Fit with the PackersThe Packers need to get more impactful plays from their interior defensive linemen this season. Adding Hargrave to the mix will certainly help the cause. It's a position group that needs some juice and Onyedim may not be the biggest defensive tackle (6-3, 292 pounds) in terms of mass, but he has the length (34-inch arms), explosiveness, and strength to be a solid rotational player early in his career with the potential to develop into a difference maker. As a Day 3 pick, Onyedim could provide immediate depth up front. In the long term, he could be a starter for the foreseeable future.
