The Dallas Mavericks do not agree with how Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick painted the aftermath of Austin Reaves injury on Thursday.In a statement released to DLLS Sports Ron Harrod Jr., the franchise disputed the coachs claim on Saturday that the team had scanned the wrong area of the Lakers guard after what turned out to be a Grade 2 oblique strain.The full statement:Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on the information provided at the time. There was no error in the scan performed."Reaves has since been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season, as has Lakers star Luka Doni with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Both players availabilities for the playoffs are up in the air.The injury in question occurred Thursday during the Lakers game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers played the Mavericks on the road in their next game on Sunday and were awaiting the results of an MRI before determining Reaves status going forward. Redick claimed to reporters a second MRI was necessary because Dallas had scanned the wrong area when they performed imaging on Reaves:"I don't know where the chain of command lies with Dallas imaging, but they scanned the wrong area. So not on our end. We made it explicit what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area."The Mavericks subsequently beat the Lakers 134-1128, with Cooper Flagg dropping 45 points. The loss was a major blow for the Lakers, who have been leapfrogged for third place in the West by the Denver Nuggets.

South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley says it is time to move past her Final Four skirmish with UConn coach Geno Auriemma that became the talk of the tournament.Staley released a statement on South Carolina's X account on Tuesday in which she expressed her respect for Auriemma and said the two have spoken since South Carolinas 62-48 victory on Friday night. Tuesday night he released a statement saying he had spoken to Staley, her staff and team, and again expressed his apologies.I apologized to Dawn, her staff and her team, Auriemma said. "Ive lost more games in the Final Four than any coach in history. But Friday I lost something more important. A new vision to try to get this program back to where we all want it to be.The Tar Heels hired the NBA championship-winning coach Tuesday, signing him to a six-year deal worth $50 million in base compensation.Malone replaces Hubert Davis, who was fired on March 24 after five seasons as the successor to retired Hall of Famer Roy Williams.The 54-year-old Malone spent 12 seasons as a head coach in the NBA, including a 10-year run in Denver. He led the Nuggets to the 2023 title behind three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic.The Nuggets fired Malone last spring with less than a week left in that regular season.
