UTSA lineman Johnny Bowens III poised for breakout season in 2026
UTSA defensive lineman Johnny Bowens III is looking to have a breakout season in his second year with the Roadrunners.Bowens, who went to Judson High School, suffered a serious knee injury in the fall of 2024, costing him the entire season. It was the first time he hadnt played football in his life.I didnt know rehab takes a year, Bowens said. When they told me it takes a year, I was like, Whoa!A 4-star recruit out of Judson, Bowens originally went to Oregon, where he played three games as a true freshman for the Ducks.He entered the transfer portal in April 2024 and announced his commitment to UTSA in July 2024.Bowens suited up for UTSA in 2025. He played 13 games for the Roadrunners and registered five total tackles, three quarterback hurries and one pass breakup.But he just wasnt the same. What was missing from his game?Just my twitch, Bowens said. My twitch, my power, and I didnt feel like I was there.Bowens says hes almost there and that hes just stacking days. The redshirt sophomore says he will do all he can to help the Roadrunners win.
