Mets prospect, 24, retires only three games into season
Pitcher Brett Banks, the New York Mets 11th-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, has voluntarily retired according to his official transactions page.Banks, 24, had not allowed a run over his first three games of the 2026 season pitching for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets affiliate in the Class-A South Atlantic League.The right-hander from UNC Wilmington appeared in 53 professional games in the Mets system from 2023-26, going 7-1 with a 2.47 ERA.MORE: Mets get good Juan Soto news amid 11-game losing streakBanks split the 2025 season between Brooklyn and St. Lucie of the Class-A Florida State League.
