In March, they were riding high on confidence after seeing several Red Sox stars making their mark in the 2026 World Baseball Classic for their respective nations. However, close to two months into the regular season, those same stars have failed to live up to the expectations.12 Red Sox players participated in the 2026 WBC, including hitters Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Willson Contreras, Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela and Nate Eaton. Together, they combined for 11 home runs in 137 plate appearances.However, the 2026 regular season has been a completely different story.These same players have only managed to hit 13 home runs in 763 plate appearances. Contreras, who had a.250/.308/.250 batting slashline in four WBC games, leads the Red Sox with four home runs in the regular season.
