Rob Thomson was also relieved of his duties as the Philadelphia Phillies manager. Martnez felt that both were victims of setting the bar so high early in their tenures."Alex Cora and Rob Thomson are both victims of their success," Martnez wrote on X. "They did so well and both organizations gave so much to them to handle, that when things stopped clicking, they were the ones to blame."Cora won the World Series in his first season with the Red Sox. Thomson took over as the Phillies manager in 2022 afterJoe Girardi. As the interim manager, he led the Phillies to the World Series but fell just short. He ended up taking over as the long-term manager and had the Phillies in contention every year. This year, he got off to a slow start and was fired.Something needed to change in both Philadelphia and Boston. However, it seems like both managers had to take the fall for both of their teams. The consensus around the league seems to be that Cora will not be unemployed for long. The Phillies actually offered him the manager job before naming Don Mattingly as Thomson's replacement.Cora is a solid manager, and any team would be excited to have him. Martnez seems to believe he is a fine manager who actually hurt himself by creating lofty expectations out of the gate.More MLB:How Long Is Sonny Gray Out?
