Although hes already exceeded the 10 days, Pirates general manager Ben Cherington revealed Griffin is set to go Pirate City in Bradenton, Fla. for a legitimate throwing progression. Its a good sign that he is throwing, Cherington said on 93.7 The Fan, via TribLive. He was able to do all the other baseball activity really the whole time. Throwing was obviously going to be the last thing to come. We wanted to make sure he was 100% asymptomatic before he started the throwing progression. We kind of got through that hurdle. Now hes into that throwing progression.Griffin was told to take two weeks off from throwing, as he hasnt played shortstop since May 27.With this particular issue that hes coming off of, we want to make sure its a legitimate throwing progression. This is not going to be a two- or three-day thing, Cherington said. Hell continue to build up volume and distance. At some point, assuming that goes well, hell probably hit a rehab assignment of some kind. We dont have a specific date for that yet. The fact that hes in his throwing progression means that, hopefully, thats not coming too long.Griffin is hitting .270 with four home runs and 22 RBIs in his rookie season.More MLB: Pirates 'Grinders' Lead Offense For Much-Needed Win
