Seahawks tackle, Super Bowl champ Josh Jones holds youth camp at George Bush HS: Football brought us together
Josh Jones walked back onto the football field at George Bush High School on Saturday morning at his youth football camp with a message about whats possible.One decade ago, the Richmond native was a high school football standout accepting a scholarship offer from the University of Houston.Today, the former Texans offensive tackle is a Super Bowl champion and the proud owner of a Super Bowl ring after starting three of 14 games last season for the Seattle Seahawks. Jones, 28, signed a one-year, $4 million contract to stay with the Seahawks in March.Im just so super excited to be back at my alma mater and giving back to my community that helped me get to where I am, Jones told KPRC 2. Just giving back to the community, helping them learn skills. The community brings us together. Football brought us together. Were going to go out there and have a good time. Whatever you put your mind to, you can do.I started here. If you choose the right path, you do the right things, you work hard, youll be able to achieve anything you want. And get your grades, too.When Jones got his Super Bowl ring designed by Jasons of Beverly Hills, it was an incredible feeling.It marked the culmination of years of hard work for Jones, a 6-foot-7, 339-pound former Arizona Cardinals third-round draft pick who played for the Texans in 2023 after a trade.Its honestly the best feeling in the world, Jones said. You work so hard for that for that one opportunity, for that one shot. Its a lot of greats that dont have a Super Bowl championship. S,o Im just blessed to have one. Blessed to be able to do it with the team I was able to do it with.Some great guys, great locker room, great staff. So, it was super exciting and super fun. A memory Ill remember forever. Just an amazing atmosphere, amazing feeling to finally get the ring. It was shining.When Jones first signed with the Seahawks a year ago, he had a good feeling about the outlook for the team under coach Mike MacDonald.Now, theyve made NFL history together.Its cool, its great, Jones said. Hes a good guy. He has a great mind, great football mind, great leader.He was able to bring us together and help learn the culture. So its been great. Im happy to be able to play for him.Of course, it helps to have a cerebral, tough quarterback like Sam Darnold running the show.Hes a great, awesome guy, Jones said. Hes the same guy every day. People dont see all the work that he puts in, all the work on his body, all the work on his game, on the playbook.Its rare when he messes up anything. So, we knew in the game he was going to be on every single read, every single target. And then from that guys story to how he started in the league to where hes at now, thats just telling on his character.Having won it all, Jones is eager to do it all over again.This year, were running it forward," Jones said. We cant dwell on what we did last year. You got to put that to bed. It was a great time. It was a great experience, but now the work has to keep going.Jones has recovered from a knee injury and expects to be ready for training camp.I head back to Monday to Seattle, get back to work, grind, get ready for camp, super excited for it, Jones said. I think Ill be full-go at the start of camp. Well see how we work into it.Jones has started 27 of 90 career games played.I couldnt ask for nothing better than to be raised in this city, being a part of the teams Ive been a part of all the way from Houston to Arizona to Baltimore and Seattle, Jones said. It was all a blessing. And its my journey. Its my path. It led me to where last year to be at the pinnacle, to be at the top.
