Former Washington OL with encouraging words for Commanders' fans
You're 53 years old, and you ask, "Will the Commanders win another Super Bowl before you exit this life?"That's what a fan asked Mark Schlereth to answer on his "The Stinkin' Truth" podcast. Schlereth was a Super Bowl champion starter with the Broncos and Mike Shanahan. Prior to that, he was drafted by Joe Gibbs and the Redskins, and started on the 1991 Super Bowl XXVI Championship team, which was the best in franchise history. An excellent NFL analyst for Fox's NFL coverage, Schlereth is always an informative listen for NFL fans. Here is how he responded to the question regarding Washington winning another Super Bowl."I don't think there is any question Jayden Daniels has the ability. He's one of those guys that can get sloppy in the pocket with his footwork, but throws the ball on time and accurately. Most guys that get sloppy that way don't throw it with timing or accuracy. He seems to be able to overcome that.""Football isnt a job, its a lifestyle." Thats what @markschlereth said Jimmy Garoppolo learned from Brady, and its the exact trait he sees in Jayden Daniels. The film shows the talent, but the elite preparation and 100% all-in mindset are what separate franchise saviors pic.twitter.com/WSUPhJ4jI3 SleeperCommanders (@SleeperWSH) July 19, 2026"My biggest question with him is he's a very slightly built dude. Can you hold up? You are going to have to change, in my opinion. You are going to have to change the way you have been playing the last couple of years under Kliff Kingsbury, because it is not sustainable.""I called a game two years ago, his rookie year against the Giants. He took off running. I can't remember who hit him. But I thought he broke him in half. It was like, OMG, he will never walk again, like, he's never going to get up. He came back in that game, to his credit. He's tough.""One of the things I loved about Jayden is his preparation, his work ethic. He is all football. Jimmy Garoppolo once told me when I asked him, 'What did you learn from Tom Brady?' Football isn't a job, it's a lifestyle. And that is the lifestyle that Jayden Daniels lives. He is all in, 100 percent of the time."I love that about him. He's unbelievably talented, smart, skilled. He's got to be able to hold up. That would be my biggest concern for Jayden Daniels."Schlereth also believes in head coach Dan Quinn. "Love Dan Quinn; he's been to a Super Bowl. Obviously, 28-3, he doesn't like to talk about it. I get it. But I think he is the right man to lead them. So, I am going to say, 'Yes'. I mean, if you don't keel over tomorrow, or within the next couple of months. I think you are going to see it at some point."Mark Schlereth encouraged that 53-year-old Washington football fan. He encouraged many other Commanders fans as well. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Former Washington OL with encouraging words for Commanders' fans
