Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.The Chicago Cubs have added a top prospect to their Major League roster before the upcoming series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.The 23-year-old infielder is ranked as Chicago's No. 7 prospect on MLB Pipeline and has spent the entire year at Triple-A Iowa.Geoff Pontes of Baseball America reports that the Cubs have promoted second baseman James Triantos for his MLB debut."Hearing the Cubs are calling up James Triantos to make his MLB debut," Pontes wrote on X.Triantos is a former top-100 prospect who's hitting .306/.344/.440 with seven home runs and a .784 OPS in 88 games this year in Triple-A.He was a second-round draft pick in 2021."Though Triantos has spent the bulk of his professional career (2026 included) at second base and third base, the Cubs have gotten him acclimated to playing all over the diamond," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
