Tyler Reddick looked nearly untouchable through the opening months of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.The 23XI Racing driver became the first competitor in NASCARs modern era to win the seasons opening three races, collected five victories through the first 15 events and built what once seemed like a commanding lead atop the regular-season standings.Six races later, that advantage is gone.After a difficult stretch that included bad luck, mechanical issues and crashes, Reddick now trails Denny Hamlin in the battle for the regular-season championship entering Sundays Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Even so, the No. 45 driver isnt sounding the alarm.Tyler Reddick says the No. 45 team just needs to figure it outReddick acknowledged Friday that the last several weeks have been frustrating, but he believes the struggles havent stemmed from one single problem.It has been a little bit of hit or miss at times, Reddick said. We just have to figure it out.The recent slide has been fueled by a series of setbacks. Reddick was caught in a restart crash at Michigan while battling for the victory, suffered a flat tire while contending at Naval Base Coronado, endured a mechanical issue at Sonoma Raceway, ran into trouble at Chicago Street Race and was collected in an incident with Alex Bowman at North Wilkesboro Speedway.Despite the disappointing results, Reddick believes much of the teams speed remains intact.If we run like we did the first 14 races of the season, absolutely, he said when asked whether the regular-season title remains within reach. Weve been going the wrong way for a while, and some of it is just racing. A couple of times we havent had the speed that weve come to expect out of ourselves. A little bit of both, but a lot of it has been crazy circumstances.Fridays practice at Indianapolis reflected the challenges the team has been facing.Although Reddick finished eighth on the single-lap speed chart, he admitted the balance of his Toyota never felt right.The last few years weve come here and felt good about what we had and knew where we needed to go from practice into qualifying, Reddick said. Today, I felt like I had never raced here before. Just lost. Struggling to find speed, struggling with the balance of the car. It was like I never raced here before.Reddick believes the Chase changes everythingWhile Hamlin has erased Reddicks once-massive points advantage, the 29-year-old isnt focused on where the standings sit in late July.Instead, his attention is on having the No. 45 team peaking when NASCARs postseason begins.You want to be in the right place, going in the right direction as you start The Chase, Reddick said. We really need to get out of whatever hole weve found ourselves in.He added that the regular-season championship battle remains far from settled.Its not over until The Chase starts. We will just keep fighting as hard as we can and not settle for days like today.Rather than overreacting to Fridays disappointing practice session, Reddick said the team planned to spend the remainder of the day reviewing notes from its recent Indianapolis setups, including teammate Bubba Wallaces Brickyard 400 victory last season.Yes, Bubba won and had a successful weekend, but we felt good about our car too, Reddick said. Whether its his race, our first 30 to 40 laps of last years race, we have some good stuff to go through.With qualifying still ahead and The Chase weeks away, Reddick believes the No. 45 team still has plenty of time to reverse its recent trend. The question now is whether it can rediscover the form that made it the dominant team through the seasons first half before the postseason begins.
