New York Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson believes cornerback Deonte Banks is approaching 2026 with a refreshed mindset after an up-and-mostly-down start to his career.The 2023 first-round pick enters the final year of his rookie contract after the team declined his fifth-year option. He is competing for a starting role opposite Paulson Adebo in a crowded secondary that includes free-agent addition Greg Newsome II and second-round rookie Colton Hood.Wilson offered a positive assessment of Banks' offseason progress ahead of training camp."I think he had a helluva offseason. Tae has been one of those guys thats kind of been running to coaching. Hes not running away from it. Hes in a different headspace," Wilson told the New York Post. "I think hes enjoying the scheme. I think the players want to see him have success. We as coaches want him to be the best version of him."To me its not living up to the first[-round] pick. Its about him being the best player he can be. He knows that were invested him, just like all the other players. He has a new opportunity, and he has to make the best of his opportunity."Banks showed flashes of confidence during spring practices in a scheme that better suits his physical, press-man style.
