Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn ImagesAja Wilson spoke about her relationship with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert during All-Star Weekend.Wilson was asked about Engelbert amid growing criticism surrounding the league and the commissioners leadership. My only relationship with Cathy is when she hands me awards, which is great. I love to see her in that light, Wilson said. But I think when it comes to leadership, Im always big on bonds. Im always big on connection on a deeper level. And I think thats what we all try to look for when it comes to a leader, when were on our teams, when were coming to the business table. Its a partnership, and it should go hand in hand.Wilsons comments come as Engelbert continues to face scrutiny over player safety issues, officiating, and the leagues response to online harassment towards the players. Last season, Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier openly criticized Engelberts leadership, and Wilson publicly backed her teammates concerns.Despite the criticism, Engelbert has repeatedly defended her leadership, pointing to the leagues rapid growth and expansion as she remains committed to executing the WNBAs long-term vision.Aja Wilson Apologizes to Angel ReeseWilson instinctively blocked an Angel Reese layup during the exhibition, despite initially trying to avoid the shot. Reese stumbled and fell after the play, and both stars laughed it off on the court later.Wilson admitted afterward that the block was completely unintentional.Angel was not supposed to do that, Wilson said. I was trying to get out of the way. I do not like to block shots during All-Star games. Ive never had that happen to me, and Im so sorry.Reese, who recently returned after dealing with a leg injury, took the moment lightly as the two shared a laugh. Wilson finished the exhibition with 12 points, while Reese contributed five rebounds and four assists in limited minutes. The All-Star Game was filled with good moments, and Wilsons candid remarks about the commissioner and the funny incident with Reese were the highlights of the day. Also Read:Paige Bueckers Celebrates Azzi Fudds Historic 3-Point Contest Triumph With 4-Word MessageAja Wilson Jokingly Expresses Shock After Learning Olivia Miles AgeCollege Sports Network has you covered with the latest news, analysis, insights, and trending stories in college football, mens college basketball, womens college basketball, and college baseball!
