Earlier during weekend festivities, Clark spoke with ESPNs Malika Andrews about the toll the constant coverage of her takes on her emotionally.I think sometimes like people forget, like, I have feelings, like Im a real individual, like I feel things and I have emotions and I get emotional and I get frustrated and I get sad and I get upset, Clark said.I get happy, I get joyful, and like I feel and experience all that stuff. But at the same time, like, I have really thick skin. And I think also I always try to remind myself is like social media is not always reality, and that is really lost on people. On Sunday, ESPNs Monica McNutt acknowledged Clarks words, but still called for more from the star. This is what I will say. Caitlin Clark is 24. She is a shining star in the galaxy of the WNBA. But I do think as she continues to matriculate through this league, theres room for a little bit more accountability and self-awareness in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood, if she sees it that way, in the WNBA, McNutt said.Shes just basically been treated like dirt.On Monday, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a big supporter of Clark, responded to McNutts comments and called out one of Clarks biggest rivals in the league, Angel Reese. The Caitlin Clark stuff continues to go off the rails, Portnoy said on Wake Up Barstool. They do an interview with her and shes pretty candid on ESPN being like, Im like, I get physically almost uncomfortable with all these narratives that are put on me.I believe she said mentally exhausted. Yeah. And then you have Monica McNutt come on ESPN right after and blame basically Caitlin for everything thats happening. Be like, well, if she wants to be part of the sisterhood, thats her words. Like, shes going to be better at like including people and doing this. And Monica McNutt, that also is fireable to me. Caitlin Clark hasnt asked for any of this. Caitlin Clark has never said shes the face of the league. Caitlin Clark has never made anything about race. The only thing Caitlin Clark happens to be is white and play a very different brand of basketball and went to Iowa and created this entire fan base that followed her.She played the game differently from other white and Black players and played a style of basketball that I hadnt seen a female play. Thats why I fell in love with her. And all she has done is elevated the league, the game. Shes got them the collective bargaining agreement. Shes gotten them to fly private. Shes Behind closed doors argued, has come out for player increases. The NBA asked her to do the 3-point contest. She said, no, I wont do that, Ill do the female version first. All she has done is advocated for the WNBA. Whenever shes asked, she said thank you to the players who came before. She wants to succeed in this league, and shes just basically been treated like dirt. Now, I do think the media makes this into a race story exactly how Monica McNutt just did. She doesnt owe fucking anybody anything. She always takes the high road. If she if she shes actually more than lived up to her bargain by consistently taking the high road. Its all the other players, starting with Angel Reese or whoever, who have taken cheap shots at her, both on the court, in the media. And shes never acknowledged it. Shes just done her thing. Shes been brutalized in the league, but for Monica McNutt to be like, its on Caitlyn to defend other people. Now, dont get me wrong, theres jerks out there, I almost said the A word, and racist jerks.Portnoy finished with saying that McNutt had no right to call out Clark. And that she lives in a world thats, thats somehow not 100x the controversy that all these other players are dealing with is so obscene from Monica. Not so. Shame on her for somehow once again blaming Caitlyn. Why would you ever blame Caitlyn? What has she done that you say she, she owes it to these other women in the league to be better.Where? How? What? All she has done is risen this league up.The post Dave Portnoy slams Angel Reese and racist jerks for taking cheap shots at Caitlin Clark appeared first on The Comeback: Todays Top Sports Stories & Reactions.
