Giants have had several talks with Cam Skattebo about his backflips
The New York Giants have spoken with running back Cam Skattebo multiple times since his botched backflip at Fanatics Fest earlier this month.Still working his way back from a serious 2025 leg injury that featured an open tibia fracture, dislocated ankle and ruptured deltoid ligament, Skattebo attempted the familiar move during a WWE-style entrance and lost his balance on the soft stage floor. He bounced up quickly, insisted he was fine and later assured everyone he would not put himself at risk before the season. The organization, however, felt the moment warranted direct conversation. General manager Joe Schoen confirmed the talks, pointing out that Skattebo is still adjusting to the New York spotlight and must stay mindful of both his health and the way his actions are perceived.Schoen made plain that he would rather the running back skip those risks this close to camp, while giving credit to the training and medical staff for having him ready."He's a young man that's still getting used to the spotlight and in New York City and you got to be conscious of your actions, not only from a health standpoint, but a perception standpoint. But he knows I'd rather him not do that," Schoen told reporters as training camp opened on Wednesday.Head coach John Harbaugh offered a fuller picture. He and Skattebo have already held "five or six" meaningful conversations since the back returned, and the flip might have been part of those discussions.Harbaughs larger point was straightforward: Take care of yourself, take care of your team, and do everything possible to stay healthy and available. Situations change, he noted, so the focus stays on the principle rather than any single stunt."Do everything you can do to be healthy, be back, be right, be good. What does that mean? It's not going to be the same situation the next time for anybody. It's going to be different, so it's really the principle you talk about," the coach said on Thursday.Harbaugh described Skattebo as eager to improve, willing to listen and comfortable sharing his own thoughts. The Giants appear to view the episode as one more item in the daily flow of communication rather than a crisis. Skattebo has taken every snap with the first unit through the early practices of training camp and sits clearly ahead of Tyrone Tracy Jr. on the depth chart. The organization seems more interested in protecting a productive young player than dwelling on the viral moment that briefly raised eyebrows. This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Giants have had several talks with Cam Skattebo about his backflips
