Late last week, a U.S District Court Judge ruled that all college athletes from the 2022 class who had completed their four years of eligibility would be given a fifth year under the new NCAA guidelines that give every player five years to participate. The ruling shook up the college sports world, giving another season to a long list of potential players. Kentucky football could be a beneficiary with word that former linebacker Alex Afari could be seeking a return to Lexington.On3's Pete Nakos reports that Afari is exploring a return to college football. Afari's brother is the source of that information, and not Afari himself.Afari spent all four of his college years at Kentucky, and quickly became one of their most important linebackers. Over the course of his career, he recorded 193 tackles, 26.5 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, and 3 passes defended. He went unselected in this year's NFL draft, but did participate in the Green Bay Packers camp this summer.The Wildcats have some talent at linebacker, but their expected starters are young and lack experience. Afari would not only bring SEC and big game experience to the unit, but he is a playmaker who would make the whole defense better. Nothing is certain yet, but this could be a big move for the Wildcats. We'll continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
