The San Francisco 49ers were dealt another devastating blow Saturday when it was announced that one of their best receivers, Ricky Pearsall, was out for the season with a knee injury.49ers general manager John Lynch said that Pearsall will have season-ending knee surgery and could be out until almost the beginning of 2027 training camp.Pearsall was still recovering from a PCL issue that had been off and on since Week 4 of last season, when he first injured it in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars."You obviously are doing your due diligence," Lynch said via ESPN. "We reevaluated after [the season], and the consensus was that that wasn't the step to take. He did well throughout the offseason, ran into some other road bumps. At that point between all the docs that we consulted ... the decision was made. As [team physician] Tim [McAdams] said, it's declared itself. And the course of action that everyone felt was appropriate was having surgery."In 2025, Pearsall caught 36 passes for 528 yards and no touchdowns. Part of the reason his numbers were down was that he fought injuries all season.So with Pearsall out, could this open the door for Brandon Aiyuk? Maybe. Although both sides have refused to sit down with the other to talk about a new contract, you have to wonder if the 49ers would even consider working with Aiyuk again.Aiyuk has all but ruined his chances of being traded, and the 49ers need another wide receiver.
