Who is the best training camp story in the history of the Washington Commanders? The Commanders date back all the way to 1932, so there have been plenty of feel-good stories over the years. Every year, fans attach themselves to one player. Whether it's because they read the hype from local beat reporters about a player making big plays in practice, or the player having a dominant preseason. More often than not, that story ends without the player making a significant impact. Colt Brennan, Marcus Mason, Jaret Patterson and Robert Davis are just some of the names that have captivated Washington fans over the years. ESPN recently named the best training camp/preseason riser for all 32 NFL teams over the years. For the Commanders, it was easy, as John Keim picked legendary offensive tackle Joe Jacoby. He was a late addition as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville in 1981 -- and he was so low on the roster that coach Joe Gibbs initially thought he was a defensive lineman. Jacoby was the last offensive lineman added in camp, but he eventually started 13 games as a rookie (eight at left tackle). He became a fixture at left tackle over the next eight seasons before moving to the right side for the majority of his final five seasons.Jacoby started 148 games, earned three first-team All-Pro honors and made the Pro Bowl four times. The organization has long felt he belongs in the Hall of Fame, calling him the best player on the fabled "Hogs" offensive line in the 1980s and early '90s.It doesn't get any better than Jacoby. From being an undrafted free agent to starting at left tackle during the greatest era in franchise history. For years, Jacoby lined up across from some of the best players of all-time, such as Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White. Taylor has shown his respect for Jacoby over the years. Yet, somehow, the Pro Football Hall of Fame refuses to induct Jacoby. We've made our case for him multiple times over the years. Jacoby was elite at left and right tackle in his career.
