Thorbjornsen produced a stunning performance on Sunday in Michigan to win on the PGA Tour for the first time in his career. It felt like a fitting conclusion to a brilliant week in Detroit. As the leaders approached the back nine on Sunday, it seemed like a raft of names could end up getting across the line in the Motor City. The likes of Davis Riley, Michael Brennan, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Xander Schauffele put themselves at the top of the leaderboard at various stages on Sunday. However, it was Thorbjornsen who ended up winning by two shots.Michael Thorbjornsen comments on the future of the Rocket ClassicDetroit Golf Club was widely praised following a $16 million renovation ahead of this years event. Unfortunately, it seems that golf fans should not expect to see much more from the venue, on the PGA Tour at least. The Rocket Classic is not going to be on the 2027 schedule due to the sponsors withdrawing their support.Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesUnsurprisingly, Thorbjornsen suggested that he would love to see the PGA Tour find a way to return in the future.Yeah, this is I think my third time playing the event, maybe fourth. Ive always loved coming here. I think the foods great. We found a great few food spots the past few years. Course is great, fans are great. Course got even better this year, he said.Obviously, you want to be able to come back to a course that you won at. Yeah, Im crossing my fingers hoping that we kind of do find an event here at some point. Why Michael Thorbjornsen thinks Detroit Golf Club suits his gameThorbjornsen has a mixed record at the Rocket Classic. He actually missed the cut in each of his first two appearances at the event. However, he went on to finish tied for fourth last year. And of course, Detroit has now provided the stage for his first ever victory on the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old outlined what it is about the venue that seems to suit his game.I think its a lot of drivers off the tee. Obviously with the redo theres a little more character to the course and you have to think about where you want to place your tee shots, he said.I dont know. I like bentgrass. I love playing would you consider this the Midwest? Not really? The North. I mean, Im from the Northeast so its very similar to kind of the courses that I played growing up.You would certainly like to think that another sponsor watched this past weeks event and saw some serious potential.Detroit Golf Club provided a great test, with players often penalised if they were wayward with their tee shots or their approaches. It is surely fair to say that plenty of fans will miss the course if Thorbjornsens win does indeed prove to be the final event there.
