A cyclist has won the Isle of Man's first Commonwealth Games gold medal in 20 years, clinching the top podium spot in the final event in Glasgow.Matthew Bostock, from Glen Vine, won the men's 40km points race final on Sunday. He has become the first Manx athlete to return from the Games with gold since Mark Cavendish in 2006. It was the island's second medal this year after David Mullarkey's bronze medal in the men's 10,000m.Speaking to TNT Sports after the win, Bostock said his first memories of cycling were watching Cavendish win 20 years ago and it felt "full circle and kind of surreal", adding: "It means the world to me, to my family, and everyone back home."'Beyond anything else'"At the start, you're just trying to do well. Halfway through, I thought 'it's in my hands now'. Obviously the mistakes are costly if you're leading and you get it wrong, so I was definitely nervous, especially the last 30 [laps]."His team-mate Ben Swift, who finished 13th, said: "He is one of the nicest professionals that I have ever met. "It's honestly been a pleasure, the past few months to work with him. To have him support me at the end is kind of surreal."Speaking to Manx Radio, Bostock said: "That performance was just me laying everything out there"He said the achievement was "beyond anything else I've ever done", adding it felt "surreal" and he could not "really believe it's actually happened".
