A pivotal Colorado State football season is approaching fast.The Rams start preseason camp the first week of August to prepare for a 2026 season with a new high-profile coach, a new league and nearly 70 new players.And the season itself will begin with a bang, as CSU hosts rival Wyoming on Sept. 5 in the first game.Theres a lot to learn about the Rams before the Cowboys come to town. Here are 10 key questions about CSU football as it tries to get the program on track.How quickly can massive roster makeover gel?Jim Mora has taken over as head coach and he brought in a mostly new (to CSU) staff. They overhauled the roster, with nearly 70 new players.Its a staggering turnover to try and get CSU winning quickly. Many formerly played under Mora at UConn and that group will ideally help transfer his expectations into the new group.If everyone is working in the same direction, it will help determine CSUs 2026 success.Who are CSUs top offensive playmakers?CSU averaged just 18.5 points per game last season and just 24 per game even in an eight-win 2024.Ram fans have been desperate for an even competent and occasionally electric offense. Does CSU have the dynamic players to get fans off their seat? The quarterbacks (more on them later) will be part of the formula. CSUs running backs and tight ends look to be positions of strength.Running back Mel Brown and tight end Juice Vereen seem like two good bets. Can a receiver like Tommy Maher, Lavon Brown, Jordan Mosley or someone else step up to give the Rams a consistent outside threat?The door is wide open for an offensive skill player to quickly become a fan-favorite.Are CSUs injury issues in the past?Injuries will happen in football, but 2025 was staggering. Gabe Jones and Mukendi Wa-Kalonji had nearly season-long injuries to decimate the interior of the defensive line. JaQues Donut Evans was supposed to be a dynamic defensive star but was out most the season. Tight end Jaxxon Warren had star potential but was lost in September. And thats just a partial list.If CSU loses fewer games to key players injured, it would be a good step to helping boost win-loss success.Does the defense have its disruptors?Injuries to Evans, defensive linemen and a couple key others meant the 2025 defense under Tyson Summers was short on game-wreckers.UConn transfer Oumar Diomande looks like the real deal, a stat-stuffer of a linebacker. The Rams need someone like Kenyon Agurs, Brandon Kelley or someone else to step up in getting into the backfield.How strong is the offensive line?CSUs offensive line is huge on size but small on college experience. There are fewer than 40 FBS starts from the expected starting lineup.Youth doesnt mean bad, but theyll have to prove themselves.Whats the team identity?Its easy to get too wrapped up in what style a team plays. The best style is winning. Still, it will be fascinating to learn where this team finds its groove.Mora has led different style teams to success, so theres no certain way yet to know how these Rams must play to win.Can CSU set attendance records?This if more a question to the fans. Will CSU set program attendance records? Or at least add to the top five in CSUs all-time home attendance marks?September seems primed for it. Theres the excitement of a new season with a new staff and a new league. The season opener is against Wyoming, which should be electric. Then national power brand BYU comes to town two weeks later.A mark of 37,583 gets CSU into home top-five of all-time and the No. 1 attendance record for CSU is listed at 40,416.Can Jim Mora positively transform CSU?Its a program desperate for success. Ever since the days of Sonny Lubick, successful years have been fleeting and winning has been inconsistent at best.Mora is here to change that. CSU brought him in at a big salary ($2.4 million) to translate his success at varying levels to the Rams.CSU fans are hoping this is the one to get the Rams on track.Can Colorado State be the overperformer for once?The Rams over the last decade or so are known for being the underachieving team. National pundits routinely have CSU as an impending breakout candidate, but the Rams rarely hit those expectations of late.For 2026? National expectations are near the floor. Most betting lines have CSUs over/under win total at 3.5. Most project CSU seventh or eight in the new Pac-12. Is this the year the Rams overperform?Who will start at quarterback?And, finally, the question that will likely be asked the most through preseason camp. Who starts the Border War at quarterback for the Rams?Oklahoma State transfer Hauss Hejny or UConn transfer KSaan Farrar?
