However, those hopes never came to fruition, and now Polk is walking away from the NFL.The Saints announced on Sunday that Polk is retiring from the NFL just two seasons into his career. The 24-year-old was competing for a role in the Saints' offense during training camp, but apparently he prefers to move on to the next stage of his career.Here's a look back at Polk's brief NFL career.Ja'Lynn Polk retiresThe Saints placed Polk on the reserve/retired list on Sunday afternoon, signaling that the wide receiver has decided to walk away from the game.The Patriots drafted Polk in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Washington, hoping he could grow with Drake Maye and form a dynamic duo. Polk was the 37th player taken in the draft and the 10th wide receiver, behind names like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.Most notably, though, New England traded back a few spots with the Chargers to select Polk at No. 37. Los Angeles used that No. 34 pick from the Patriots to take wide receiver Ladd McConkey.Polk played 15 games as a rookie and produced just 87 yards in a dismal Patriots season, as he was one of many New England players who struggled that year.
