You can't move without crashing into Odyssey references on the internet right now. But watching the final moments of Sundays SummerSlam weekend, my brain couldn't help but drift into the realm of the ancient Greeks, at least when it comes to Roman Reigns. After scoring an epic victory over his longest-standing rival, the World Heavyweight Champion is left in a position the Hellenic poets would probably recognize: he is the hero in search of a quest.Watching Reigns finally defeat Rollins, it was hard to shake that conclusion. Here is a man who has done it all. Who has recorded perhaps the most dominant reign of any champion this decade. Who has returned to win the Royal Rumble and restore himself to the top perch. And now who has finally claimed the scalp that evaded him for all these years.When WWE chose to crown Reigns as champion this year, we all knew he'd been the face of these big stadium events. But did anyone really think he'd end up delivering the match of the night at two back-to-back stadium shows? Let's not forget what the cynics told us about Reigns: that this was a man who would be going through the motions before finally hanging up his boots and moving to Hollywood.Those doubts began creeping back in again in the run-up to SummerSlam, triggered, in part, by the lethargic build given to the Rollins match over on "WWE Raw." It was a situation that just didn't seem to make sense. Here was a match they'd waited years to do teasing it in multiple Royal Rumbles and WrestleManias and they were letting recycled video packages do most of the talking?In the end, we needn't have worried. Once that bell rang, Reigns and Rollins launched straight into it, throwing absolutely everything into an epic 30-minute slobberknocker that probably topped the main event of this year's WrestleMania. By the end of it, wed seen more near-falls than your average AEW world title match. Given the stakes, my guess is that both men had realized this match billed as the final chapter in the decade-long Shield storyline would end up being a big part of their legacies. There was something genuine in that fist-bump at the end; the moment when Joe Anoa'i and Colby Lopez realized they'd accomplished exactly what they'd set out to do that night.But that was last night. What comes next for Roman Reigns? What storylines are left to tell now that the whole Shield thing has been put to bed? And how do you find a new challenge for the man who has already done everything?We've seen that dilemma come into play already this year, particularly during the months after WrestleMania. At first, it looked like WWE was going to go all-in on the whole Bloodline story, using Roman's new championship run to bring the family back together and revive the glory days of 2023. As predicted, that didn't quite work out. But it did have the unexpected consequence of turning Solo Sikoa into perhaps the most unlikely babyface of the year.After that, WWE reached for its trump card: Reigns vs. Rollins. In truth, it was a match that probably could have taken place at any stadium show (injuries allowing) over the past three years. But it was just the ticket for a "Tribal Chief in search of a statement victory. On that front, it certainly delivered. Not only did he score the biggest win of his current title run, Reigns also finally extinguished the ghosts of his past, making him look stronger than ever.So, what is next for Reigns now thats done? My guess is they'll spend the next six months or so reinforcing his status as the top dog on "Raw," setting up feuds with the likes of Penta and Royce Keys. Given that Reigns has just beaten Punk and Rollins in back-to-back stadium shows, there will be zero chances he loses to any of them.Instead, Reigns should remain unbeaten and carry that belt into next year's SaudiMania. At that point, you can set up what is clearly the biggest money match on the table right now: Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi. It will instantly be the biggest WrestleMania match in at least three years, and it will lead to a result that will go down in wrestling history: Oba Femi becoming world champion by crushing Roman Reigns.It might seem a strange destiny for a man who has dominated WWE over much of the decade, but it's the right path nonetheless. For 10 years, Reigns has been the man to beat in WWE, and perhaps its dominant champion of the modern era. Let that continue for a little while yet. Then come next April, we'll see if there's anyone who can take it from him.Based on what transpired over this past weekend, I think we have a decent idea who that might be.
