Phillip/Associated Press) As Major League Baseball teams made a flurry of moves ahead of Monday's trade deadline, Shaker High School graduate Jeff Hoffman was one of many players to be sent to a new team.The Toronto Blue Jays traded the 33-year-old Hoffman to the Minnesota Twins on Monday in exchange for multiple prospects.A 2011 Shaker graduate who was a first-team all-state selection, Suburban Council Pitcher of the Year and Times Union Pitcher of the Year after leading the Blue Bison to a Section 2 Class AA title and a state final appearance in his senior year, Hoffman had a 6-7 record with five saves and a 3.94 earned run average in 48 innings over 51 appearances with Toronto this season.A 2014 first-round draft pick by the Blue Jays out of East Carolina University, Hoffman was later traded to the Colorado Rockies, with whom the right-hander made his MLB debut in 2016. He struggled to break through over seven seasons with the Rockies and Cincinnati Reds, but turned his career around when he joined the Philadelphia Phillies in 2023.After a 2024 season with the Phillies where he was a National League All-Star, Hoffman signed a three-year, $33 million contract with Toronto ahead of the 2025 season. He served as the Blue Jays' closer in 2025 and closed out the Blue Jays' playoff series wins over the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, but allowed a game-tying home run to the Los Angeles Dodgers' Miguel Rojas with two outs in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the World Series.
