The Philadelphia 76ers are looking like a much different team as they head into the 2026-27 season. New President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey looks to build a strong roster around the team's talented core. The Sixers have been unable to get over the hump in the past, but Gansey and Co. have made steps towards fixing that problem.The Sixers began the offseason by selecting Labaron Philon Jr. with the No. 22 overall pick and then went out and brought in Dean Wade, Ariel Hukporti, and Anfernee Simons in free agency. Then, the Sixers swung for the fences with the blockbuster trade to bring in Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. Then they landed the biggest name in free agency in LeBron James before landing a deal with 2-time champion Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as another depth piece.Here's an updated look at the depth chart for the Sixers as they move forward:Point guardStarter: Tyrese MaxeyDepth chart:Labaron Philon Jr., Anfernee Simons, Caleb Love (two-way)James will certainly play a ton of point guard, but Maxey is coming off a fantastic season in which he averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 46.2% from the floor and 36.7% from deep while playing in 70 games. He did his best to be there for Philadelphia on a nightly basis and was a big leader for this group throughout the season. He will now look to take an even bigger step forward as a player in the coming season as Philadelphia chases a championshipPhilon, the No. 22 pick in the draft, will serve as the primary backup to Maxey at the moment. After a terrific sophomore season at Alabama, he will now look to take on even more responsibility as the stabilizer for the second unit in Philadelphia. Simons will also receive playing time, but will likely play the 2-guard more often due to his scoring ability. Love will serve as a depth option.Shooting guardStarter:VJ EdgecombeDepth:Simons, Kentavious Caldwell-PopeEdgecombe, the No. 3 pick of the 2025 draft, was terrific as he averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. He took on a bigger role as the season wore on and made sure he was ready for whatever challenge was thrown his way as a rookie. One has to wonder about his development with the presence of Brown and James now, but the Sixers should find a way to prioritize him a bit more in 2026-27.Simons is a combo guard who is more of a scorer, so he will play this position off the bench. He averaged 14.3 points in 55 games for the Celtics and the Chicago Bulls while scoring 20-plus points 12 times, including a season-high 39 points in a Jan. 15 win over the Miami Heat. Caldwell-Pope is a career 36.5% shooter from beyond the arc and he can knock down tough 3-pointers while also being a defensive pest. He will play both the 2 and the 3 off the bench.Small forwardStarter:Jaylen BrownBench:Caldwell-Pope, Justin EdwardsBrown was fantastic in the 2025-26 season with the Celtics as he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 47.7% from the floor and 34.7% from deep as the No. 1 option. Many thought the Celtics were in a gap year due to the injury to Jayson Tatum, but Brown stepped up in a major way to make sure the Celtics were still in the mix to ensure their contention. He will now look to do the same for the Sixers.As mentioned, Caldwell-Pope is reliable and somebody the Sixers can turn to in tough situations to calm younger players down. He's been through the playoff battles to get to the mountaintop in the league quite a few times. As for Edwards, he will be entering his third season in Philadelphia looking to really find his groove. He had an up-and-down second season after a terrific rookie year, but he brings a lot to the table. He's physical, he can knock down a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer, and he battles on the defensive end.Power forwardStarter:LeBron JamesDepth:Dean Wade, Dominick Barlow, Jabari Walker, Rayan Rupert (two-way)James immediately changes everything. He can do so many different things on the floor as he is the Queen piece on a chessboard--and the Sixers will certainly utilize his while skillset. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.5% from the floor and 31.7% from deep in his eighth and final season with the Los Angeles Lakers and led LA to Round 2 of the playoffs. He is still a phenomenal player and will help this roster in plenty of different ways.Wade will now come off the bench after being initially listed as a starter and will bring his Swiss Army knife type of game to the second unit. Barlow averaged 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 71 games with 59 starts in his first year in Philadelphia. His playoff performance was a bit up and down, but he is somebody who can start in a pinch and does the little things to help a team win. Walker has a non-guaranteed contract, so one has to wonder what his future holds while Rupert was recently signed to a two-way deal.CenterStarter:Joel EmbiidDepth:Adem Bona, Ariel HukportiThe big fella was limited to only 38 games in 2025-26, but he did average 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in those games. He also returned early from an emergency appendectomy and helped Philadelphia return from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Celtics in Round 1. Injuries will, unfortunately, always be a part of his story, but Embiid has worked hard to be there for the Sixers and will continue to do so in the 2026-27 season in an effort to chase down that elusive championship.After losing Andre Drummond in free agency, the Sixers will turn to Bona and new addition Hukporti to hold down the backup center spot. Bona has proven himself to be a capable shot blocker and energy player, but there is still much to be cleaned up in his game.
