Leverkusen sign Spanish full back Gutirrez as Grimaldo successor
Bayer Leverkusen have signed Spanish left back Miguel Gutirrez on a five-year contract until 2031, the Bundesliga club said on Wednesday.Gutirrez, 25, arrived from Serie A runners-up Napoli and the transfer fee has been estimated at 30 million ($34.5 million).He is to take the place of compatriot Alejandro Grimaldo who has left Leverkusen for Atltico Madrid.Miguel is a superb footballer exactly the player we wanted for this position, Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes said.He named Gutirrez "a skilful, attack-minded defender who fits in wellwith our team. With him, we have brought in a new, very invigorating element for our Werkself.Gutirrez said: The club has really impressed me over the past few years; Bayer 04 have an excellent reputation in Italy and also in my home country of Spain.Ive heard a lot about the Bundesliga, watched matches and Im really looking forward to the atmosphere in German stadiums."Leverkusen start the season on August 22 with a German Cup match at third division Wehen Wiesbaden. Their first Bundesliga match is a week later at promoted Elversberg.
