Benches, bullpens clear in brief skirmish between Tigers-Mariners
Seattle There was a mini-skirmish in the eighth inning between the Mariners and Tigers Wednesday night. Both benches and bullpens emptied, but not much came of it other than a lot of jawing and the ejections of Mariners manager Dan Wilson and pitcher Gabe Speier.Heres what led up to it.Mariners starter Bryan Woo hit three Tigers during the course of his seven innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Tigers lefty Enmanuel De Jesus drilled Cal Raleigh with a 95-mph fastball. In the top of the eighth, Speier threw twice at Gleyber Torres. The first one missed. The second one hit him on the foot.Torres looked out at Speier as the Tigers players started streaming out of the dugout.Things separated quickly but after the umpires convened, Speier was ejected. Wilson stormed out of the dugout, complaining about the umpires not issuing a warning after the first pitch at Torres. He, too, was ejected.Chris.McCosky@detroitnews.comThis article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Benches, bullpens clear in brief skirmish between Tigers-Mariners
