The Red Sox were once hopeful that he was going to be one of the better players in Major League Baseball. Not that relievers aren't important, but it's somewhat telling that he got traded for a guy who isn't even going to come in and close games for the Red Sox.Reports have indicated that he's happy with being traded and is looking forward to playing with the San Francisco Giants back on the West Coast. A West Coast kid, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise to many. That also led to one former Red Sox player making an interesting comment. Jonathan Papelbon suggested that he wasn't made to play in Boston and that it was a great trade by the front office.Marcelo Mayer wasnt made to play in Boston!! Another great trade!!It almost doesn't feel fair to say that a young kid wasn't made to play in Boston, especially when factoring in the injuries Mayer has gone through throughout his career. However, Papelbon has been very open about how he feels certain players in the organization have played, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise to hear him take this stance.More Red SoxLatest Red Sox news2026 Red Sox schedule2026 Red Sox rosterComplete history of Red Sox championships
