Coco Gauff has now addressed it, while defending the trans community from attack.World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka recently gave her take on the Womens Tennis Associations new mandatory gene-testing policy for players. It is set to go into effect ahead of the 2028 Olympics.Sabalenka was supportive of it, calling the policy fair. It is essentially a one-time gender screening which is based on biological sex. The policy is stated to want to preserve the integrity of womens tennis.The debate over transgender athletes in sports goes well beyond tennis. Gauff is no exception. She was asked about it during a recent press conference.Her take on the issue focused on finding nuance. Gauff said she agrees with the policy while lamenting the way its being used to attack the trans community.I understand the reasoning behind it, Gauff said. I do think that this kind of conversation has created a lot of animosity towards the trans community, which Im not really a big fan of.I think its a conversation that is very nuanced. I kind of agree with trying to protect the fairness in womens sports. But I also do not like the attack that it is creating. People who dont really care, but just want to use this as a reason to attack the trans community.I dont really know how to answer this question in a way that people arent going to spin it. But as far as where I stand, I definitely support the trans community, but I also support the need of creating fairness in sport too.Gauff is certainly maintaining a neutral stance on the subject, which continues to create a lot of heated debate in the world of sports.
