West Suburbans lone loss was to the West Region (Palo Cedro, California) by a 2-0 decision Monday.West Suburban finished with a 3-1 record in Pool B.Asia-Pacific finished 2-2.A day after scoring 12 runs, West Suburban had difficulty getting runners on base against Asia-Pacifics Faith Tamba, who tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts in a 7-4 win over the Canada Region (Repentigny, Quebec) Tuesday.But West Suburban finally broke through with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, as Cameron Mash reached on an error when her grounder to second wasnt corralled. Then after Mash stole second, Bryn Roberts hit a hard ground ball up the middle to drive in the run.We got a girl on and we had to roll the dice, Rick Roberts said.Against West Suburban, Tamba pitched six innings and struck out 10.Of her 89 pitches, 76 were strikes.Oh, she was really hard, Bryn Roberts said. Her curveball was disgusting. You just had to get up in the box and adjust.West Suburban finished with just four hits.Shes (Tamba) really, really good, but our pitching is just as good, our defense is just as good, Rick Roberts said.In her Pool B debut in the circle, Reagan Bills was excellent for West Suburban, allowing no runs, no walks and striking out two. She didnt allow a runner past second base, yielding just three singles. She threw 33 of her 52 pitches for strikes.Reagans awesome, Rick Roberts said. Shes our main shortstop, so we dont throw her as much. But as you see in pool, we have six legit pitchers.Bills surely could have pitched a few more innings, but Rick Roberts wanted to keep everyone well-rested heading into bracket play.I think if we were in bracket play we would have ran her out more, he said.We had a plan to keep her at 50 pitches. That way everyone is fresh.Our plan all week was to keep our girls rested so when we get to bracket play, we have five or six options that are well rested.In the sixth, after Abigail Claar was originally called out at second on Jerzy Bopps single to center, West Suburban challenged and it was overturned.Kylie Ferguson then hit a two-out single to right to score Claar.That might not seem like a big run, but one-nothing is totally different than two-nothing, Rick Roberts said.Irelyn Scott pitched the fifth and sixth innings, and left a runner stranded at third in each. Ferguson tossed a scoreless seventh.In pool play, West Suburban pitchers have allowed four runs.
