Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the thick of the National League Wild Card race and could use all the bullpen help they can get.On Thursday, the NL West club signed a nine-year veteran with 22 career saves to a minor league deal.According to Charlie Wright of MLB Trade Rumors, right-hander Dennis Santana has agreed to join the D-Backs on a minor league contract.Santana opened the season as the top closer option for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went 2-for-4 in his first handful of opportunities and was replaced by left-hander Gregory Soto.The Pirates designated Santana for assignment in July after he posted a 6.05 ERA in 44 appearances out of the bullpen. He allowed eight home runs and walked 11.3% of the batters he faced."The stuff has ticked down slightly for Santana in 2026. He averaged a career-low 94.1 mph on his fastball. His slider sat at 85.6 mph, a 1.4 mph drop from 2025," Wright wrote.
