FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Day 12 of training camp looked a little bit different for the New England Patriots as they held a scrimmage. Before the practice started, head coach Mike Vrabel split up the coaching staff, with assistant head coach Terrell Williams (Team White) and running backs coach Tony Dews(Team Blue) serving as the head coaches. Quarterbacks coach Ashton Grant and safeties coach Scott Booker coordinated Team White, while wide receivers coach Todd Downing and cornerbacks coach Justin Hamilton coordinated Team Blue.And then they conducted a draft, selecting the players on each team. But with that, Vrabel set two stipulations: Jared Wilson had to be on the same team as Drake Maye, and Efton Chism had to be on the same team as his best friend, Mack Hollins. It was a day of fierce competition with numerous impressive plays, but in the end, it was Team Blue who won, defeating Maye's team, 22-15.Here are the takeaways from Friday's practice:1. DeMario Douglas delivers play of the dayTommy Devito, who was on the blue team, had a favorite target during the scrimmage, and it might come as a shock to many that it wasn't A.J. Brown. Instead, it was DeMario Douglas, as the receiver finished with six catches. But they had one play during the two-minute drill in which DeVito sent a deep ball to Douglas, with the receiver managing to get behind the defense and make the catch for a 50-yard gain. 2. Myles Montgomery leaves everyone shockedTechnically, there were two plays of the day, and this one was also delivered by the blue team. Behren Morton targeted wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer, who bobbled the pass, and it seemed like It was going to be recorded as a drop. However, undrafted rookie running back Myles Montgomery used his speed, snagging the ball before it could hit the ground and running it down the sideline, nearly scoring a touchdown before he was pushed out at the 10.3. Quarterback statsWith Drake Maye on the white team, it was Tommy DeVito who led the blue team, and the backup quarterback did not disappoint. DeVito was working with a talented offense, having receivers such as A.J. Brown, Douglas, Mack Hollins, Efton Chism, and Hunter Henry, as well as running back Rhamondre Stevenson. DeVito started strong, going 8-for-10 in his first two drives, while Maye and his team struggled, with the star quarterback going 1-for-6 through his first two drives. Maye's receiving group included Kayshon Boutte, Romeo Doubs, Kyle Williams, Eli Raridon, Nick DeGennaro, and TreVeyon Henderson. As for Behren Morton, he started on the blue team, taking over for DeVito, but he then switched over to the white team for a drive.Maye's two touchdowns went to Romeo Doubs and TreVeyon Henderson, while both of DeVito's went to Douglas. As for Team Blue's offensive line, the starters were Marcus Bryant, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Ben Brown, JonDarius Morgan, and Dametrious Crownover.Gabe Jacas was making an impact, providing the blue team's offensive line with some challenges. Kindle Vildor recorded two pass breakups while covering A.J. Brown.
