The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the better offenses in the NFL. When healthy, this unit can compete with anyone, even the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks as we saw last year. In that game they beat the eventual world champions because they had no answer for Baker Mayfield and the Bucs' passing attack. While that is a moment fans can hang their hats on, sometimes the defense is due a win every now and again. In training camp on Thursday, the Bucs' defense rose to the occasion and was able to make some plays. ESPN's Jenna Laine wrote about the big day for the defense and the low-lights of the offense. Laine wrote, "QuarterbackBaker Mayfieldfelt the heat from the sun and from the defense, as the pressure got to him several times, and he was flushed from the pocket and forced to throw the ball away as he couldn't find any downfield options because of tight coverage by the secondary. The defense is going to win some days in camp, you at least hope they do. The biggest takeaway from her update, though, should be that the young players on this defense are already stepping up. The trio of Bain, Scott, and Trotter could be the nucleus of this defense as it makes its way into a new era.
