Geno Smith's arm talent has never been difficult to spot. Over the course of a long NFL career, the New York Jets quarterback has earned praise for his ability to make throws that few passers can attempt, but according to offensive coordinator Frank Reich, the most impressive thing about Smith during training camp has nothing to do with arm strength.It's his focus."He's a leader of the offense and, make no mistake about it, in every way, shape and form," Reich said Friday. "To me, what has come crystal clear ... the attribute that sticks out to me is his laser focus. This man is laser focused like people don't understand. He comes to work. He comes to work, and he is locked in. And I feel like the whole offense plays off of that. That's a big deal."That offers insight into why Smith has quickly established himself as the unquestioned leader of the Jets' offense. While coaches often praise veteran quarterbacks for their experience or command of the playbook, Reich emphasized the daily example Smith sets for teammates. That leadership appears to be translating onto the practice field.Smith continued his strong training camp on Friday, completing 8-of-12 passes during team drills while connecting repeatedly with star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. The veteran has earned positive reviews throughout camp for both his command of the offense and his willingness to challenge defenses down the field."I love the competitive spirit of this team, Smith said.
