Outlook for Windsor Forest, New Hampstead and Liberty Co. in Region 3-4A
The 2026 high school football season in Georgia will have a new look as the Georgia High School Association's latest realignment comes into place with many teams falling into new regions for the next two school years.Region 3-4A has three teams from the Greater Savannah area in New Hampstead, Windsor Forest and Liberty County joining Long County, Harlem, Southeast Bulloch and West Laurens in a new league.Windsor Forest and Liberty County competed against each other in Region 3-3A the past two seasons, while New Hampstead was in Region 1-4A, which featured Benedictine and Ware County.Here's a look at what to expect this year from Windsor Forest, New Hampstead and Liberty County as the 2026 high school football season in Georgia gets set to kick off.Windsor ForestThe Knights have a different outlook this season with the hire of Willie Martin Jr. as the program's new head coach. Martin comes from Crestwood High in Sumter, South Carolina, where he served as the offensive coordinator for the past six years and he brings his son, Jayden Martin, a three-star junior prospect who had 609 yards rushing and receiving and eight scores last year.Windsor Forest missed the playoffs last year with a 4-6 record, but closed out the season with three straight wins. The Knights are looking for their first playoff appearance since 2021, which closed out a run of five straight postseason berths.Jayden Martin holds offers including Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion and Howard and the left-hander will make the move to quarterback this season."Jayden played quarterback as an eight-grader on the junior varsity and that team went 8-2," Willie Martin Jr. said. "He's a tough kid to get on the ground, so with him at quarterback, it's going to be an exciting brand of football."He'll be running an offense known for its speed with several track and field stars who double as football standouts. Senior Jaimor Duncan is back as a receiver and defensive back. Jaimeer Duncan is a junior captain and a featured running back along with sophomore Telly Riley, who coach Martin described as the offense's Swiss Army Knife.Junior Dwane Franklin and his classmate Kamari Duncan lead a talented group of receivers. "We have a lot of team speed, and that's going to be a plus for us because that's one of the things you can't coach in the game of football," Willie Martin Jr. said.Senior Amani McKinney will be the leader on the offensive line.Malachi Daniels will be a senior leader on a defense at linebacker after a junior year where he had 52 tackles, with six for a loss.The Knights have a freshman defensive lineman who will have a big impact in Jerry Lankford, a 6-foot-5, 335-pounder who his coach said has been wreaking havoc early on.Jaimor Duncan will be the leader of an athletic defensive backfield.Willie Martin Jr. said the strength of the team will be its chemistry as the seniors have grown up together in the program and that the season will be dedicated to Keshaun Allen, a Windsor Forest junior varsity player who died on the sideline of a 2023 game after suffering a medical emergency. The Knights displayed Allen's No. 58 jersey as a recent media day event.New HampsteadThe Phoenix are coming off a 2-8 season as New Hampstead missed the playoffs coming out of the rugged Region 1-4A.Kyle Hockman enters his eighth season leading the Phoenix in his 25th season as a head coach. The veteran has posted an overall record of 173-101 with a 34-39 mark with New Hampstead.New Hampstead has an offensive line featuring four returning starters in center James Gerald, Michael Bryant, Jalen Williams and Antonio Washington.They will be opening holes for Christian Kinlaw, who had a breakout junior season that was cut short by an injury. Kinlaw rushed for 847 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 6.3 yards per carry and caught 24 passes for 238 yards and pair of scores in eight games.Sophomore Antonio Benton is set to take over at quarterback, with Kinlaw also in the mix to see time behind center. Benton follows Erik Hockman, who threw for 2,140 yards and 14 touchdowns before signing with Ithaca College. His twin brother, receiver Ben Hockman, is playing at Cornell. They are coach Kyle Hockman's nephews.Mekhi Lynn is the the top returning receiver after catching 31 passes for 381 yards and a pair of scores last season.The defense will be led by senior linebacker David Kirkland, who had 38 tackles and a pair of interceptions last year, along with junior defensive lineman Joshua Bey, who had 34 stops last season. "We know there will be ebbs and flows during the season, but this team is close and they have a focused mentality," Phoenix offensive line coach William Wallace said. "We're going to need to seize our opportunities and execute when the time arises. Our guys are biting at the bit to get back to the playoffs."Liberty CountyTony Glazer enters his fifth season leading the Liberty County program looking to build on last season, when the Panthers reached the Class 3A state playoffs and finished with a 7-4 record.Liberty County has 14 starters returning, with nine on offense and five coming back on defense.Jaeir Roberts started at quarterback as a sophomore when he threw for 1,047 yards and ran for 273 with 10 combined touchdowns. Glazer said he and sophomore Jack Jacobson were competing for the starting job.Receiver Aaron Brown, a two-time All-Region first-team selection who had 35 receptions for 439 yards and three scores last season, is back as a senior playmaker and team leader.Senior Carson Carter was an All-Region first-team pick last year and leads an offensive line with four returning starters including Sam Brant.The defense features Nykiem Ezell, a three-year starter at defensive back who had three interceptions and eight pass breakups last year. Senior linebacker David Bacon had 63 tackles with 10 for losses and a pair of sacks last season.We're going to run the ball and be known for our physicality," Glazer said.
